Hi,
Not sure if I am allowed to ask this here, but I'll take my chances!

I am wanting to get a Moby wrap for DS2. Does anyone know the cheapest place to get them or anywhere that does a discount?

Thanks!

www.moby.co.nz have a 10% discount at the moment (code LT1).

Keep an eye on TM. You can often get them for $50-60 on there. I also had a search for Hugabub on there - they're quite similar and sometimes go for the same price.

Otherwise you can make one but you need to make sure your fabric isn't too stretchy.

I'm probably going to get in big trouble for saying this, but check out http://www.skin2skin.co.nz/Clearance.html - skin2skin , they've got some cheap clearance ones at the mo. Lovely fabrics too although not quite the same quality as a Moby TBH.

ooh and I just remembered, they're giving one away at the mo in celebration of their first Mary's Market appearance - email sales@skin2skin.co.nz with the subject line 'Competition'

It's Baby Wearing Week next week so there are bound to be some specials around then too...

Hehe, I have to admit when I say "I" made it, I mean I fed the baby while my Mum cut it.

Oh this is brilliant! All I need now is step-by-step (and preferably illustrated for a total newbie haha) instructions on how to use it, and I might actually be able to give this a shot!

Just a question about fabric types, how do you know by looking at a roll of fabric that its going to be suitable?are they allowed to have a little bit of stretch, or is no stretch at all best to use if using long-term?

Sure enough Scamps have 15% off all their baby carriers

Lisa there are pics on the Moby wrap website and lots of videos on YouTube etc. Up to you re: stretch - a little stretch is great for a newborn and means you can pop them in and out without retying, a woven wrap will last longer, can be used for back carries but needs to be retied every time pretty much. A stretchy wrap is a bit easier for a beginner (but not too stretchy!).

Awww the bit where he gives bubby a little kiss before popping him in...

Is that really how high a baby is supposed to be carried in a moby? Seems rather awkard for us females given we already have something taking up space in that area lol!

and wow, thats a lot of excess fabric to tie around the waist

Nah I never carried either of my babies that high, I don't think either of them were ever that small though! Plus he's reeaally skinny so that's why he has to wrap it around so many times.

JadeC that one's good, but for a stretchy wrap it's easier if you can tie it on first and pop them in (helps to get a tighter, more secure wrap too). The official Mobywrap.com http://www.mobywrap.com/t-instructions.aspx - instructions are pretty good for a stretchy wrap (I prefer the hug hold, Addie still has her legs in for the newborn hug hold). For woven wraps I love the videos on http://www.wrapyourbaby.com/videos.html - Wrap Your Baby

Thanks, I will try it. Keeping it tied would be useful, I'm hoping to wear it on the plane when we fly to Aussie on Sat.

Geoff's, Ike's, Arthur's, all the same people I think! I used to go to the Geoff's on Lincoln Rd in Henderson but that burnt down not too long ago... I guess search for Emporium on www.yellow.co.nz?

There's a Geoffs emporium on um, Dominion Road, around the Mt Eden end (on the same block as Foodtown, Horizon Radiology).

There used to be one in Manukau opposite the Warehouse (though that might have been Arthur's, not Geoff's)

Theres still an Arthurs in Manukau, its just moved up the road a bit past the Supacentre... I remember going into one in papakura... (although admittedly that was several years ago, so maybe they've changed?) and there wasnt really any fabric, just lots of arts and crafts and dressup type stuff... might go have a look and see what i can find in there now lol!

So much for one more question...

I noticed that some of the moby type wraps available (for eg, the skin2skin ones) have a stretchy contrast panel on the front, are there any patterns available to accomodate a front panel?

Then again... maybe I should try walking before running

If i was doing a panel, I would sew it over the normal wrap. If you put seams in it, it might mean it's not as strong. Just tuck the edges under and straight stitch it around all 4 sides.

So I went and checked out the material (and its changed to Davids Emproium... lol) and omg theres so many types... how do I know whats too stretchy, and whats not stretchy enough?? Also they had some material that kind of felt ok, and was super cheap at $1 a metre... but it was this awful dirty olive green colour (which would explain why its so cheap, its a nasty colour!) would it be worth getting enough of that material to have a go at making a Moby in case I F it up, and that way havent wasted so much $ on it? Or is it so easy to make that botching it is virtually impossible?

Oh and in the pattern, the centre part looks diamond shaped, but on videos on youtube, the front panel is more of a rectangular shape... does it matter either way?

My Moby (proper one, not home made) is like a thick t-shirt material. A bit of 2 way stretch but not much. Don't know if that helps!
