Hi Mummies,
Any recommendations on change tables - do you think you need one? I have looked at the solid wooden ones and the fold out ones but I am not sure how much to spend. We have a 2 storey house so will need to change baby up and downstairs, so I was thinking a fold up one could be good. What do you think? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

It's one of those pieces of furniture that some people swear by and others happily do without.
I wasn't going to get one and just planned to change my baby on the floor or bed. But I ended up with an emergency c-section so my MIL offered to buy us one (yay). I went with a solid one from Mocka. Once it's finished being used as a change table it's still a great bit of furniture for the kids room. I totally love it. I can't imagine changing a wriggly baby on a fold up one, but I'm sure they're more stable than I picture in my mind. ------------- Adoring Mum to Talisin 8/9/11 and Kiara 18/01/10 |

You probably won't want to be carrying one up and down the stairs so maybe one for upstairs and then have a soft changemat for downstairs? You could use it on the table (sounds gross I know but sometimes it's practical!) or couch or floor. I didn't have one last time as didn't have enough room but am definitely getting one this time as it's much easier on your back  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

the safest place to change a baby is on the floor !
can you tell i didnt have a change table. i always sat on the couch and did it - till they started rolling - or the floor. But in saying that when i had eden i used to change her on the top level of her cot and i could see why people like change tables. | My back couldn't live without my change table! Find it too hard on the ground. I second the need for the right height for you. You can get some great ones that have pull out shelves so everything is at hand, as well as baby. You can use them for storage when no longer needed to change nappies. |

I had a fold up one that I got on trademe and it was awesome, I just put some nice plastic boxes on the bottom shelf for storage. I'm glad I didnt spend a fortune on one. I spent $15

We have two .. one upstairs and one downstairs both solid wood with drawers and a cupboard for all there bits and pieces.

I agree with cbirch - my back was killing me! I bought a cheapy fold-up one off TM, and it was too low, and changing on the floor nearly had my in tears with the pain (& the visits to the osteo were expensive!). So i bought a wooden one - think its a touchwood knock-off from Farmers, and its great. When she is older I will probably change her on the bed or the floor - back allowing.

We bought a wooden one with two shelves underneath. I ended up having a c-section and I'm really really glad we bought one because it really saved the pain of getting up and down off the floor.
I bought some boxes to go on the shelves to store nappies, wraps etc. and it's been fantastic. DS still gets changed on it 99% of the time and will do for a long time yet - as will our next baby. We bought it off Trademe for around $100 and it was like brand new. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
