Breastfeeding top recommendations

My baby is due in october and I'm going to need some breastfeeding tops for when I'm out and about or when I've got visitors.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of breastfeeding tops to buy? Or, is there a clever way of breastfeeding in public without showing your breasts and wobbly tummy? How do mums with babies cope in public when they have to breastfeed? Would appreciate any tips or bits of advice.

Thanks

I had several BFing singlets which allowed me to wear anything I wanted over the top and still do the business discreetly when I needed to.

I found that wearing a boob tube + maternity bra worked well. I bought several bf singlets, but found they weren't supportive enough. So the bra / boob tube combo worked better. I wore the b/t so it came to under the bra, and covered my tummy whilst feeding...

HTH!

I agree, they're definitely not supportive enough alone.  I always wore a maternity bra under the BFing singlets.

I do singlet underneath which I pull down down and t-shirt over top which I pull up. Covers both boobs and wobbly tums!

I 2nd the BF singlets. I can't imagine wearing it without a bra tho. I also bought a BFing top, and it was good in the begining, but now prefer to be able to wear whatever tops I want.
Also, BF tops are really expensive.
I found that in the begining I would BF in the parents rooms if out shopping, or in the car. Once I got more confident with BFing ie getting baby latched 1st time and less full I am now happy to BF in public ie in cafe's etc.
Also, I got my BFing singlets from the Warehouse, they are resonably priced and actually fit me better (16FF) where as some of the 'labelled' brands' didn't work in terms of the hole being in the right place.

I tried the BF singlets too, but also found they didn't give enough support, and over a bra I just found them too fiddly when I was trying to feed DD in public - I was pretty nervous about feeding in public to start with. They are great for nights though.

I also tried a proper BFing top which had a slit/pocket across the front, but found it like sticking my boob through a letter box slot!

TBH the best thing I found were just a bunch of loose-ish tops from glassons & jeanswest, and t-shirts were great too - I find it easy just to unclip my bra through the top reaching down, then to pull my top up a bit with the babys head covering any boobage until she latches, then to drop my top back down a bit. I'm still a bit shy about it, but feed everywhere now - cafes, beaches, on the ferry etc.

The other reason I moved away from proper BF clothing was that most of the stuff wasn't clothing I would normally wear, and as a new mum, I wanted to make myself feel good by dressing in clothes I liked...so now if something I wear doesn't work too easily with feeding, I whip it all out, but just chuck a wrap over so I don't scare people with my big, floppy, veiny boobs!

Oh and I did the boobtube thing too - but now I just can't be bothered - like Bizzy said, t-shirts & baby cover all the jelly-belly

i only got one actual breast feeding top and mostly found regular v-neck or lowish neck tops good, i could pull the top down rather than lifting up (which i personally found more of pain). then for more discretion i used a large muslin that went over my shoulder then down across boob and babies head.

I pretty much ALWAYS wear a singlet under my clothes anyways, so pull that down and top up. Or I wear a boob tube (glassons, supre etc have good cheap ones!) and that covers tummy etc (was good for me feeding in winter, didn't get a cold tum!)
Also if you wear bely bands during pregnancy, they might be big enough to cover your tum without the bulk of a boob tube

Also when I was very leaky, dribbly etc, I'd tuck DS's bib into my bra, so I didn't get a wet top/bra. Was great, people didn't look twice at the bib

I've got these great singlets from Baby Star that basically have holes cut out for your boobs. I usually wear a singlet under my tops anyway so this is just the same.

Think they do a pack of 2 for $50

BF bra, stretchy singlet (one that will hold it's shape so Lycra is good) so I just pulled the singlet under my boob, undid bra and yeah... Tshirt/top was pulled up so hid the top part of my boob and the singlet covered my tum.

You can always place a blanket over your shoulder and baby to hide things as well but in the early days I found it a pain in the a$$ esp when you have to relatch etc!

Re feeding in public. No real advice, I feed anywhere so long as there is a decent seat.

I have a BF top, wore it once and simply didn't like it plus they're so expensive!

I use a breast feeding cover from www.talikins.co.nz. Wish I'd found it when my baby was younger. It's like using a wrap or blanket over the baby except it has a straps that you put over your head like an apron. It stops the cover falling off or baby pulling it off. It also lets you maintain eye contact with your baby as it has a rigid neck line which is also good for latching. Means I can wear normal tops and not buy more expensive feeding tops.

I LOVE my pregnancy pitstop t-shirts. Not sure if they're making them still as I got them on clearance for $19 each. They're so great as they don't scream I am wearing a breastfeeding top.
