Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out what o buy for my newborn - I have a MB urban but wondering if people recommend the basinette or a clip to clip a car seat capsule into?

I don't really want to buy both and want to know if you get much use out of a basinette?

What do you think of the car seat clip option?

Thanks

I haven't used either yet...but I decided to go for the bassinette option rather than the carseat clip mainly because I can use the bassinette as a bed when visiting friends and family...or around the house if baby doesn't like the hammock. And the baby would be lying flat rather than hunched over in the capsule.
I guess the carseat clip would be handy in some instances, but I felt that I wouldn't want to leave the baby in the capsule for extended periods anyway so would probably want to transfer from the capsule into the bassinette if I was going to be away from the car for a long time... If just at the supermarket or something then the capsule can just go on the trolley and I wouldn't even worry about getting out the buggy!

There are loads of second hand bassinettes/carrycots on trademe too so you can get a reasonably good deal - seeing as they're only really used for the first 3-4 months anyway or until baby tries to sit up to see out!

I don't have a MB but a P&T, tbh I had the capsule option and the bassinet option and used the bassinet maybe twice because dd HATED it. We just took her out of the capsule at friends places and slept her on a bed with pillows around her or we held her or spread a blanket out on the floor. Hth.

I don't like the idea of pushing them around in their carseats so have the bassinet, I much prefer that bubs be flat than hunched up. I don't supose you actually need either though really.

Should probably add that we just pushed her round flat in the buggy without the bassinet or capsule. Had the capsule for car only and only time she remained in the capsule was if she was still asleep after the car ride though she usually woke up!

the clip on wheels can be really handy for a capsule, especially if you have had a c-section and need to take an older child to kindy etc and don't want to wake a sleeping baby etc etc. You can hire the wheels from plunket and possibly baby on the move. (although the reccommendation is not to leave a baby in a capsule more than strictly necessary)

I just picked up a carry cot (MB) on TM for $80, comes with a rain cover too - I'm stoked as I really wanted one first time round but they were still too spendy then. I'm planning on taking good care of it and selling it one when we are done, even if I only get $40 back I think it will be a great spend.

WE've got both options (p&teds though) Use the capsule int he buggy loads. I didn't *think* I would when I was preggers cos of the recommendation to avoid leaving baby in capsule...but it's actually really really handy. If we know we are going to be more than an hour, then I'll put her in the cocoon - otherwise we stick with capsule.

We had both and found them to be really useful. The carseat clip was great if I needed to go to the mall and she fell asleep in the car. Just handy for nipping hear or there. The bassinett was her bed for the first 4 months and was really useful as I did lots of walking and she would sleep and then didn't have to worry about how to get her in the house when I got home. The one to gets depends on what you do most, walking - without car, or quick nips here and there with the car. Hope that helps

I just had the MTB bassinet and I loved it coz DD slept really well when we were out coz she could lay flat. However, there were instances where I wished I also had the snap and go wheels or something similar, just for occasions where I just needed to pop in to a shop or something. The bassinet and MTB also took up heaps of room in the boot and it was a bit of a hassle when we went away when DD was 7 weeks old. There was hardly any room for any stuff in the boot once we got those in. Although in saying that she slept in the bassinet when we were away so it was handy in that way.

I hired a MTB bassinet and wished I had just bought one so I had it for future babies. Only used it for 3-4 months but it was used A LOT. We used it as a bed when we went out for day naps (when she wasn't sleeping on me) and she spent a lot of nights sleeping in their when she was a newborn... could rock her to sleep in it and then no way did we want to move her!!!

We have the bassinet with the MB and used it so much especially if we were having a rough night. I could put her in the bassinet and I could lay in bed and rock her to sleep .   We also used it for about the first 4 months for day sleeps. I wouldn't have been without it TBH.

Well worth the money IMO
