So DD is now 8 months old and has all her meals in her highchair, For the past 2 or 3 weeks she has started thrusting herself backwards against the back of the highchair over and over, at first we thought maybe it was because she was done and ready to get out of the highchair, but she does it when she is still eating quite often and shows no distress when doing it, in fact quite often does it with a huge smile on her face.

Any ideas why she would be doing this... I know this probably seems like nothing but people have asked what she is doing, and I'm a little worried if she was to do it on someone elses high chair that might not have so much padding or is shorter and could maybe tip?

Daniel did it, it became a big game. Once he figured out it got him no extra attention and it sometimes hurt he stopped it.

Bex I'm probably not much help, but Ruby used to do the exat same thing ! We still have no idea why maybe they like the rythm or the noise .   Once it starts to hurt they stop

She also used to bang her head on her bedroom wall before her naps

K does something similar, not in highchari but being held or sitting up anywhere she just suddenly throws herself backwards. She thinks its great fun!! I presume its just a phase.

Just like everyone else has said, they do it because they can!

I was so worried when ds1 did this and he would throw his head back when we were holding him or in the highchair e.t.c

People said "oh youv'e got yourself a head banger there" or that's a bit strange.
I used to say he's doing it beacause he can , he gets a reaction, it's fun.

By the ds1 is perfectly fine!
But is very clever and know what to do to worry his parents!

Yep Jackson did it too. He sometimes still does if he's had enough of being in the highchair. I just ignored it

Yeah my Son sometimes does this too.  As frustrating as it is I just ignore him and he eventually stops.  He must like an audience!!

yup mack did it too. he was in a P&T attatched to the table so it was low on his back and used to hurt so it was short lived. definitely went through the same phase though

Chelsea did it too! We have the same high chair as you and sometimes when she did it it would make the back of the chair move backwards a few notches
thankfully she doesn't do it anymore!

haha, Cooper does this too. He will often hit his head on the back of the chair and get really upset about it, then carry on and do it again a few seconds later. Silly boy.
