Hi everyone
My girls 10 weeks today, and I am planning on going back to work part time around January 2011 Has anyone done this recently or have some advice on how to go about finding the right place for her? Is it too early to start? thank you

I am planning on putting DD in homebased care when I go back to work in December this year
I have been in touch with both Porse and Barnardos and both have said its too early to meet individual carers, they just don't know who will be available then. I was told to check back 6 weeks beforehand You can fill in the forms etc and meet with the coordinators though and get a feel for the organisations, it feels better to be prepared Hope that helps!------------- http://lilypie.com">

Being in Auckland I'd say daycare centres will all have long waiting lists if that's the way you want to go, so I'd contact them now. Home based - what nuts_nats said sounds right - they won't know who is going to be available. But I'd still probably make contact now anyway just so they know who you are and what you're after and can keep you in mind if they know spaces are coming up

Id definately get in touch with daycares and go on a few waiting lists. I had to put DS on the waiting list when I was 3 months UTD and it was only confirmed earlier this year. He is there 2 days a week, and I am waiting again to see if we can increase days next year. | go and look at centres now, the staff may change between now and then but the general feel of the centre shouldnt change too much. put your name down at a few places you like, and go and have another look closer to the time. although to secure a space at one you will usually have to pay a deposit of one weeks fees |

Hey, I'd go Home Based all the way any day - especially for those under 3, small numbers they get sick less and get heaps more one on one care.
I use PORSE as do some of my friends and the care is flexible and the people great! For me they had no space but PORSE put my requirements up on their website and I got the dream caregiver for my wee man!! Good luck with your search hon |

I was talking to a colleague's wife on the weekend, she's an early childhood teacher and said the latest research shows that babies under two in full time care at a day care centre get on average 8 mins one on one time a day....which scared me and makes me think I'll look at home based options when the time comes.
however, she was very quick to point out that figure was an average and that there are many centres that do a fantastic job with under 2s. |

My daughter has been in daycare since 3 months, we are in CHCH.
Definately go and have a feel for the place, we put DD into one and are shortly changing her, mainly because I'm struggling with getting proper meals into her and her current centre doesn't give meals whereas her new one will so she will get variety, Not a biggie but good for me. Also structure I really like structure, her current one isn't so structed. And the over two area seems a bit chaotic at times. I never wanted her to go into this section anyway, At moment she has just turned one in August, so not there yet. Umm also you may like it that they have different rooms for different ages. Definately ask about their sickness policy stuff. I read on here a little while back that one centre wouldn't take the kids if they were just having pamol! I am very happy with DS's daycare. In the baby room there are wonderful teachers and the teacher:baby ratio is very low. Some days there are only 3 babies and 2 teachers so they get heaps of attention.
It does depend on the daycare and how it is set up. I did visit a few that put me off but Im happy with the one we chose. It also helps that its on-site so I can work a few days and still have DS close by ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Hi ladies,
I thought rather than starting anew post re daycare centres - I was reading this post and thought I would ask, any of you ladies on the shore in Auck, can you recommend any daycare centres? Or any feedback on any? Good or Bad? I am looking at a couple at the moment for next January, when DD will be just over 1, and would be really keen for some reviews. You can PM me if you like..... I just think it would be great to get an idea of what some are like from parents who already have kids in the centre. Thanks all |

I cant comment on the waiting and when to check etc but just wanted to say that my DS is in Family Day Care here in Aus (same as Home Day Care in NZ) and I totally recommend it. His carer is amazing and treats him as her own. I have never worried about the care he is getting and he settled in so well at the beginning. There are only 3 other children there (1 being her own) and he has only been sick twice in 4 month since starting there ------------- Our Angel July 08  Gone but not forgotten
And to complete our family, our princess has arrived

I had my Milla with Porse Magenta - and for an under 2 I wouldnt go any other way - home based care is fantastic
Make sure you take the time to ensure the person who takes care of your babe suits your family though - we were lucky and had a fab chic who is a friend now Its not as pricey as youd think either - Id pay $20 a week less if she was full time at daycare with loads of other kids ------------- http://lilypie.com]

I think you're doing the right thing going with Porse and just want to second what raspberry jam said from a nannies perspective.
I worked as a nanny through Porse for 2 years and loved the kids like I imagine I'll love my own. Porse really look after their nannies and encourage them to do extra training which was fantastic. I just found this thread and wanted to say Porse are great! I have worked through them a number of times as a nanny.
I'm actually looking for work at the moment if any of you are interested PM me. I have 16yrs experience with Newborns to 2 yr olds. Happy to provide ref etc. |
