Just been wondering about this lately as I have started the fertility drug clomiphene to help with TTC and I have never been one for taking drugs if I can help it. Plus my DH has just been treated successfully for both insomnia and back pain via Chinese acupuncture. I have been a bit sceptical about acupuncture in the past before this but the acupuncturist that DH has been seeing also specialises in fertility so I'm wondering if it is worth a go.

What are your experiences with both eastern and western medicine and have you found that one worked when the other didn't? I am obviously quite interested in the fertility side, but hearing about your treatment for all sorts of things would be great!

Accupunture is now recommended on occasion by the specialists I work with for certain side affects of treatment and my Great Grandmother used to swear by accupunture for pain relief.

I had accupunture two days before my daughter was born.  I had been in latent labour for a month and was feeling very wound up through lack of sleep and pain.  I certainly felt much better after the session I had though I think I doub that it initiated labour given that I was so close to due date anyway.

The only caution I would give is to make sure that you mention any alternative medicines / treatment you try to your medical specialists as sometimes they react with the more traditional stuff. It's helpful for them to be aware that you are trying other things so that they can change things if necessary.  Other than that I would say go for it.

Yes, this is my first cycle on clomid. The thing is I know I won't be able to do both at once because neither will be happy about the other so I need to put all my eggs in the one basket IYKWIM and i've always been more trusting of westernized medicine in terms of a positive outcome.

I studied complementary therapies as part of my massage training, and any good eastern/complementary health practitioner will work with your normal gp/western medicine.

Like all medicinal treatments a full history and disclosure of treatment being undertaken is important so the practitioner can provide you with a treatment that will work for you.

In China - western medicine has worked along side traditional medicine for many years.

Oh ok, thanks for that. When I tried a naturopath years ago they wanted me off all western medicine so I just assumed it would be the same for an acupuncturist. I think I'll give it a go then!

I'm not into Eastern medicine but can't see a problem doing both. If being on clomid and having acupuncture makes you feel good and positive then I think it is worth it
