Hi there, wondering if anyone has any experience / suggestions on this. My DS1 is nearly 3 weeks old and has started to develop more gas. He has been a farter up until now with only the odd burp, and seemed to pass gas easily. Since Monday, If I feed him now, settle him (i wait 20 mins for him to stop wriggling around after feeding to sleep) and then lie him on his back to sleep in his bed, at about the hour mark he wakes up screaming in pain with what I presume is trapped gas. The only thing that has worked so far is to have him on his tummy on me until that hour has passed (he usually farts during this period) and avoid lying him on his back for that first hour period after the feed. Night times are better as I feed lying down (supposedly helps reduce gas), but I have to keep him asleep on his side for at least that hour period and he usually farts without waking so I put him back to sleep in his bed. This is driving me up the wall as by the time he has fed for half an hour, then I've waited an hour to put him to bed, it doesn't leave much time for me to sleep. It seems strange to me that he can happily fart away during and after a feed but has pain passing that gas at the one hour mark. Hope this makes sense to someone out there 
Any thoughts / ideas / remedies would be greatly appreciated

Have you cut out all the windy food? Or if you do have it make sure it's only lightly cooked as after 5 mins the sulphur content of things like onions, cabbage etc doubles.

It seems to be happening regardless of what I eat. Well as far as I can tell there is no pattern anyway. I'm avoiding citrus, chocolate (milo), garlic, cabbage etc. at the moment.

We had this with DS and it drove me mental and I got so tired. No mater what I tried I couldn't get all his burps out of him at night. It got better as he got older and as he fed less at night.Sorry, I can'tr remember when it stopped but had done so by 9 weeks I think. It made him really uncomfy. We tried gripe water, plain water and infacol and all worked a bit. We also sat him with his back against our tummies and pushed his legs up against his tummy by his feet. Thanks for the advice guys. Have tried cutting out those foods and it seems to have improved. Seems to be the worst morning and evening, but I think that this is when he does his feeding frenzies anyway. Off to the osteopath on Monday so will see if that makes any difference too. Thanks for your comments, especially yours Rovic as I'm very glad to hear that things improve over time.
