I am wanting to get a bouncer/rocker type thingee for number 2. I didn't use one for Jackson, but am thinking anything safe I can put bubs into while I play with the commanding toddler will be helpful.

I'd like to get one of the ones that vibrates/plays music.

Are they a waste of money? (I will go second hand). Does anyone have one they can recommend?

I ended up selling the bouncer and getting one of those fisher price battery operated swings with the music... it was a lifesaver!

A bouncer was an essential for us. DD didn't seem to care about the vibrate function at all, but she's not a baby that needs that rocking to sleep. As for music, once she got old enough to pull the handle that makes the noise she loved it, and loved ripping the toys off their velcro strips. DD has reflux so having her more upright in this saved the screaming from lying her flat so we were naughty and she had most of her day naps in this for a couple of months.

I have a bouncer with no music or vibration, just toys. It's in really good condition - near new and picked it up from TM for $25. I still use it if I want to have a shower and no one to watch DS. I found it really helpful in those early months, especially when he needed to be upright after feeds so he wouldn't spill so much.

I've looked after another baby who could care less about the vibration function so I just didn't use it.

DS did get rocked to sleep early on but I wouldn't use a bouncer to do it unless he was a terrible sleeper and he wasn't. I don't know if it's the kind of habit I'd want my child to be into or for it to become his sleep association you know??

I ed our bouncers - they were awesome for when I couldn't give one of the girls direct one on one attention but needed to settle them (if I was feeding the other one, for example). Ours didn't have vibrations or music, just toys, and they were happy as larry - they played with the toys and watched the world go by, and it seemed to do the trick.

We have the same as BriAndOlisMum, the old fashioned mesh bouncer and again, DS loved it. We don't put him in so much anymore but it was fantastic and I picked up a near new one from TM for $10 and just took the mesh off and chucked it in the washing machine, it was good as new.

My IL 's bought a vibrating one with toys on it for him at their place, he seems to enjoy it but no more/less than our own one.

I think they are around $39.95 at Baby City and The Baby Factory

Edited for shocking spelling!

Lily hate her bouncer from the start, Liked it for all of 2 weeks and hates it again so imo a waste of money, she did however love her capsule and liked to be rocked in that so when #2 comes I think I will get one of those swinging ones... Sorta like http://www.trademe.co.nz/Baby-gear/Bouncers-jolly-jumpers/Swings/auction-311116435.htm - this .

we have a bouncer. it is great for when i am busy with Mack but we dont have any toys, music or rocking function. i often point it towards the window if he wants more to amuse him than looking round the room but he is normally perfectly happy. its also pretty good cos my boys had reflux too. definitely get a bouncer. i highly recomend it.

We just had a old-fashioned, no music, bouncy. It was really good for teaching #1 that the baby had some personal space (instead of just lying the baby on the floor) and the baby liked to watch us.

I had something similar to this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Baby-gear/Bouncers-jolly-jumpers/Bouncers/auction-310694448.htm - rocker . Mine was a bit flasher with a hood on it as well. I found it brilliant, I could chill on the computer or watching tv, generally taking some me time & I'd rock him with my foot.

He had a lot of his day sleeps in this, brilliant for reflux babies (not that I knew that at the time)

Also really easy to take places so he could sleep in that there. We didn't use a capsule this time around so needed to take something with us.
