how often did your midwife visit postpartum? And for how many weeks?
When do you see a plunket nurse?

You can self refer to Plunket straight away if you want. My MW2nd time round came maybe 3 times. 1st time around she was there every day for a few days and then dropped down.

Mine was pretty crap. Came on the first 3 days after discharge from hospital (would shove baby on my boob, offer me antibiotics and leave), then every week.

ok, I've seen mine once so far. Wasnt sure how often to expect her.
She's had a few births this week so I dont want to phone her and ask in case she's getting some much needed rest.

Second babies they tend to think that you know what you're doing so you get less visits - that's what I found anyway!
Think my midwife came maybe twice first week, then once a week after that. Referred to Plunket at 6 weeks. Your midwife should tell you when she visits when she's next coming around though?

She has - its been rescheduled twice because of births and I haven't spoken to her since (but she delivered a friend's baby at 01h30 this morning so I'll wait to contact her).
I'd like my wound checked and to know if I can take the dressing off or change it

My follow up was pretty slack. Got seen my a MW I had never met the first 3 times, and then it was every 1-2 weeks until 5 weeks. We were referred to plunket on d/c from the MW and seen at 6 weeks.

Wow, that is pretty good in NZ. I didn't see anyone til 10 days postpartum check up for me and DS and I had a c sect and was home on day three. Then the next check was 6 weeks.
Azza, do you have to change dressings, I know for my stitches I just took the dressing off after ten days I think it was and that was it. My stitches were the ones that were not removed tho. Or is it a lower down kind of wound lol!!

Mine came 24 hours after I'd been discharged from hospital to do a check and remove the rest of my staples, then about two more times that week and weekly after that until 6 weeks when Plunket took over.

I dont know what I should be doing with the dressing or when it should come off. I dont even know if I have stitches or staples
I was told that I should shower rather than bath and keep the dressing dry. Dying for a nice long soak in the bath!

Azza you can call the maternity ward at the hospital you were in regards to the dressing question.
I had the midwives out at my place when Andrew was the next day. (I left before he was 24 hours old). They came 3 days after that and then once a week until 6 weeks. Then at 6 weeks Plunket came until I signed off and say I don't want Plunket anymore. (my own reasons.)

Azza have you heard from her yet hun?? I think it is very slack you have not been seen. I no she is busy but someone should have been aranged to see you. I stayed with my friend after she had her csection to help her and i was told to change her dressing every day. She had her stitchers out at about day 7 i think.

Hmm mine came day 5 and day 6 (first and second day home) then day 8, then weekly until 4 weeks when i was discharged.
I personally would call her, if mine couldnt make an appt her back up came.. maybe call her mobile and if its going through to the back up then ask her to come and check your wound!

With DS who was an emergency CS, she came everyday for a few daysm then every few days, then once a week I think. she wanted to make sure he as feeding properly as we were haivng problems wit it.
With DD, I had an elective and I knew what I was doing and breastfeeding went well, so i saw her maybe once or twice a week.
Plunket saw us at 6 weeks both times, and then usually once a month for the first few months then just whenever the wellchild checks are due.

Yeah I would ring the maternity ward to check staples vs stitches if you don't hear from her. That is pretty dumbo, can't believe you weren't told what to do before you left hospital. Yip, no baths only showers and make sure it is really dry (pat only!!!)
What kind of dressing have you got, mine was sort of see through so I could see the wound and it stayed on til the 10th day, didn't change it at all.
They should totally only do the stitches that you don't need out, so much easier....wonder why some don't?
Hopefully you will have heard from her by now!!!!
