We've just had THE BIGGEST water bill EVER $367.08

Our last bill was $65 and the one before was $250 cause we had a leak , someone from the council came and fitted restrictors to all taps, the shower and the toilet.

I have no idea why its so high !!!!!

I had DS in Jan so we used some water to fill the birth pool but not $300 worth

It MUST be a leak but there is no water anywhere we have noticed and not now when DH has had a decent look.

What are your current rates

What are your current water rates ??
We do live in Auckland but still over $300

Wow Jody that seems really high!

I've just had a look and our last rates (for 6 months) was $144.90, we had restrictors on all taps but took the kitchen one off because it took forever to fill the kettle etc. We don't have one on our shower either. That's also with me having a bad habit of running water to wash a few dishes when I don't want to put them in the dishwasher.

I hope you can find the cause, that seems excessive compared to your previous bills.

Ours are usually around $100 I think and were in Auckland too. We have a leaking toilet so the last one was up to $150 and im also doing alot more washing with baby clothes and cloth nappies. Could it be from before the problem got fixed?

The house is ona concrete slab, i hope theres not leak under there

The leak last time was DH backing into the washing machine and it broke something on the back of it that made it leak heaps. That was fixed and the next bill was $65.

I'll check the meter tonight and the again in the morning.   See what happens.

Jazzy Thats heaps .

I will ring the council tomorrow and see if they can shed some light.

Any other ideas gratefully recieved

gees when I was a kid my mum always told us to go drink water as it was free...hmm no is not

I would say there is a leak somewhere!

The water rates for our street(we all share a pump/bore) were SO high a few months back and thats because there was leak at one of the other houses, and also the pump was on its way out, a new one is in now though.

Hi

I work in the water industry in Auckland

How to tell if there is a leak...

Turn off all things that may use water (and dont flush the loo - take a reading of your water meter and if dont use any water for a couple of hours)

If your water meter has gone around thats an easy way to tell if you have a leak.

If you do have a leak and you cant locate it then the leak detection people can pick them up with the sounder things they use.

Is it because of the waste water charges that have come on recently? Our bills used to be around $120 and are now around $250 thanks to them!

Our last one was about $160 - that is DH having 2 showers a day, me having 1 shower a day, only sometimes 2, 1 load of washing a day and our water is on mains pressure. But our dishwasher was broken so we were washing by hand. Now that we have a new dishwasher and it is on almost every day, I imagine we will see an increase.

It does sound like there could be a leak, and there is some good advice been given about finding it - good luck

Just on top of my last hint

if you do find you have a water leak and have it fixed by a plumber keep your receipt and write into your council (or whoever supplies your water) and send them a copy of the receipt and enquire about a leak reduction.

I know they do it in Manukau so i cant see why they wouldnt in your area - they normally just reduce it to the amount of a typical month i think.

Check your HWC too and the overflow which can be found on your roof.

Ours are every 6mths up here and we paid $153.
