Subject: One thing to change

I've been thinking a lot lately about little changes I wanna make in my life - changes that are reasonably small, but will make a big difference to how things run in our house and how I feel. Things like.....
- be in bed by 1Opm
- drink more water
- eat more fruit\veges for snacks
- make all the beds first thing in the morning
- put washing away in drawers when it's folded, instead of leaving it on the dining room table
- don't go on the comp til morning chores are done
- read my bible more often
- have one night a week TV\Internet free and spend time playing board games or Wii with DH instead
- keep the kitchen bench clear at all times
- get some exercise
So this week I've decided to work on bed time... I've been getting to bed way too late for me, 11pm ish, and when I have a wee baby who wakes up several times a night -last night I lost count after 8- I really can't handle it!
I figured I needed some steps on 'how' I was gonna achieve this goal... blimmin teacher in me. So here's my plan of action
1. put the nappies on to wash at dinner time instead of later, so I can hang them out earlier
2. ask DH to be stern with me and make me go to bed lol
3. get off the comp by 9.3Opm at the very latest
Anyone else want to join me? What one thing will you change this week?

Good idea...! I would love it if we could all be in bed by 10pm here, so far (6 of us living here) 4 of us are in bed by 10, dp and I, my mum and baby. But my grandparents don't go to bed until... 5AM! And they make so much noise too! They've got their day and night mixed since they retired. *rolls eyes*
Mine is Drink more water
Spend less on groceries (already achieved this last week!)
Not forget about the washing, I'll often put a load on and it'll stop and I'll forget about it until the next day or later on... Ooops!
Save more money...!
This week I am going to work on the drinking more water one...
Plan of action is to have one with every day time BF and every meal, with Lily still feeding 2 hourly it shouldn't be a problem!

I've been working ont his too, moving my bum more and eating more vege and saving money on groceries.
You will feel loads better for not going to bed late! DH always stays up later and feels like sh*t, before I got preg I was in bed at 930, asleep at 10 (usually read in between) and I was always refreshed.

Yep I definitely have things I needa change...especially since MIL and 2 SILs will be living with us...and MIL keeps a clean and tidy house...not that we aren't clean and tidy...just sometimes the washing or dishes pile up lol. So at the mo we're in the throws of packing..but at the new house I will not let washing pile up...and will make sure all my lil fams dishes are washed and put away straight after they're used (minus meals that use lots of dishes...since I might as well utilise the dish washer lol)...make beds first thing in the morning....that'll do for now. I'm already working on the water thing.

I'm with you on the bed earlier! I went to bed at 11 pm last night which was early for me. I've been waiting up for C to have his last feed but that cross fingers is stopping.
I'm going to be in bed by 10.30pm. There are programs I like on at 9.30 so it sucks if I went to bed earlier & we're a one TV family so can't watch in bed.

It must be in the air .. I was just thinking I need to "change" in the following ways ..
- Cleanse, Tone & Moisturise twice a day
- Have my hair cut and coloured once every six weeks
- Keep eye brows tidy!
and my big two big one after the week of receiving private messages from petty people is ...
- Spend more time on the floor with the kids and less time online when I am at home
- Don't sweat the small stuff

I need to go back into Chocolate Rehab.. I managed 3 weeks the last time I stopped eating it.. and I want to last longer this time around.
I'm pretty good with my bed times.. never stay up later than 1030pm unless I'm reading a book I can't put down...
I want to get Cooper over his fear of the beach.. maybe starting one day going and standing on the sand and slowly getting him to walk on it!
Hmmm this has got me thinking!

Oooh yes I need to do this too.
1. Don't leave my entire week's washing until Sunday evening, when I then have to put an entire load through the drier. If I wash it earlier in the day (or SATURDAY, shock horror) I can save power and hang it up.
2. Start moisturising all of me every day - or by the time this pregnancy is over I'm going to resemble a tiger
3. Start planning dinners in advance so that by the time I'm starving I'm not tempted to go get takeaways.
4. Stop sitting on FB and OB as soon as I get home from work every day - do the chores THEN go online.
5. Start getting to bed earlier! I was really good at this for a while then DP came along!

ooh I like this !
Just reading it made me think about what I need to change too
Mine is
Be in bed before 11
Drink a lot more water
Eat a lot more fruit and vegies
stop having so many takeaways
only go on the computer once morning chores are done
do the dishes after eating instead of letting them pile up
fold and put away the washing when it comes off the line
now to attempt them .....

oh my list is probably huge.
drink more water
eat less bread
get out of bed earlier - 6.30/7 i am thinking
do some exercise
make the beds in the morning
make and keep a cleaning schedule
unpack some boxes and bags every day
stop being lazy (haha thats very general and all encompassing)
I think i need to get the morning one sorted first. The kids were nearly late this morning cause i slept in.
I have lately though accomplished keeping my couch clear of washing that needs to be folded. Since we have moved i have kept it away from couch and we have had 2 couches to sit on in the lounge.

I think my biggest problem is getting enough sleep too. I figure if I am not as tired everything should be a whole lot easier to manage.
For me I like to be in bed and TV off by 10:30, the earlier I get to bed the more likely I am to turn the TV off at 10:30.
And getting out of bed by 7:30. It should be easier when I am going to bed earlier but on these cold mornings it is just so tempting to stay where its warm. Makes mornings totally hectic and not a good start to the whole day.

I started one for the month and I have stuck to it all but 1 day and that is to eat at least 2 piece of fruit a day. I am liking it and going to stick to it for a long time now.
The next thing I need to work on is brushing my teeth at night - I suck at it big time, can do the teeth in the morning cos I do it in the shower.

fantastic idea !
i have far too many....
*be in bed by 10.30
*get up at 7 instead of 7.30 and then rushing around for 10 minutes before i leave the house
*prepare dinners in advance (i was doing well for a couple of weeks then slipped again)
*stop leaving clean washing on the couch for the cat to nest in
*put on one load of washing every 2 days so i dont spend all weekend doing it
*drink more water i.e a glass an hour
*eat more fruit and vege
*vacuum every week or more
*keep our new bathroom clean
*stop spending so much money on food
*less takeaways
eta: *floss more often! (thanks beloved!)
oh and i like bizzys one of stop being so lazy

Funny you should bring this up as I was thinking it last week so have already made a start on them. I didn't write it down though so now I'll be able to look at it in a months time to make sure I am still doing everything!
*Floss every night, not just every now & then
*Go to bed by 10pm latest
*Make at least half of DS' baby food (more if poss but I'm aiming for half for now)
*Have a shower before getting DS up - I always feel more motivated when I'm not in my PJs
*Tidy as I go - I am notorious for leaving a tornado wherever I have been in the house then when it comes to the end of the day it takes so much more time to clean up
*Do 1 load of washing a day - it keeps everything ticking along nicely for us and doesn't all pile up.
I'm sure there are loads more....

Great thread. I have been trying a slower approach - picking on thing to do for a month before adding a new "good habit" to the list. First was eating breakfast every day and I am pleased to say I actually do this now - possibly the first time in my adult life
Right now I'm trying to drink more water. We buy bottled water in 1.5L bottles so my goal is one bottle per day. I find it is really helping to have a specific goal (rather than just "drink more water")
Next on my list is eating lunch at home 4/5 days. I am so bad for having leftovers in the fridge and then going out around lunch time to do chores and then buying myself a sandwich or soup or something from my favourite cafe

I did the 'brush teeth goal' at New Year's and I have only slipped twice so far It is so much nicer in the morning.
I was doing making our bed and did it for 2 months and then let it slip so that is back on the list.
- eat 2 pieces of fruit every day, not 2 pieces of chocolate
- drink more water
- try and keep a gratitude journal
- be a nicer less growly mum

Mine is...
-finish the french doors before knocking the pantry out! It may sound stupid, but I'm so excited about getting my new kitchen (thanks DH for being sent overseas!) that I'm eager to start, but I need to do all the fiddly trim on the doors which I can't be ar*ed with.
There are heaps of things I'd like to do, but I think I'm doing a reasonable job of eating well, exercising enough, have done the sleep thing and am down to 10.30 from 12am, work/home life is as balanced as can be expected, all while DH is away. When he gets back I'd like to start writing a bit more, but I just don't have enough time or brain capacity by the end of the day!

OK, so does anyone wanna join me in my little programme? If so, pick just ONE thing to start with this week and decide on a plan of how you're going to do it.
We could check back in here each day to report how we're going and get encouragement and ideas!
My goal is going well so far today - going to bed early. I put the washing on at dinner time and will hang it out soon while DH puts our big boy to bed. I also just asked him to make sure I go to bed early again tonight lol.

I'm going to focus on 3 things :) As I have plenty more to do in the weeks ahead!
THING TO CHANGE - WEEK 1
Get to bed by 10pm
ACTION PLAN
1. Get off laptop by 9.45pm (only 10 mins left!)
2. Also tell DH to tell me to go to bed!
THING TO CHANGE - WEEK 1
Make at least 1/2 DS' baby food
ACTION PLAN
1. Buy apples tomorrow and cook/puree
2. Organise the bits & pieces that I have already frozen into freezer bags
3. Start feeding DS my home creations - let's hope he prefers it to the bought stuff!
THING TO CHANGE - WEEK 1
Floss every night, not every now & then
ACTION PLAN
1. By going to bed early, this will help - as when I get to bed late, I can't be a*sed flossing.

Great idea :-)
Here's mine;
Get organised in the mornings - make more time to get myself ready.
Exercise EVERY day
Follow 'the plan'
Do some study every day
I wanted to put go to bed early but I just can't lol. Night time is 'my' time - after all the washing and chores have been done that is!!
**Action Plan**
Get organised in the morning - make more time for myself to get ready
-make lunches and pack bags in the evenings
-get kids clothes out and ready for the next day
-load, stack and empty the dishwasher in the evening rather than emptying in the morning 'if' there is time
-take the time to get ready properly myself including bathroom time! - cleanse, tone, moisturise, make-up.
Exercise EVERY day
-this speaks for itself!
-afternoon walks
-lunchtime walks
-get DF to look after kids and get out on my own or do zumba
Follow 'the plan'
-I already have a 'cleaning roster' but sometimes it is left by the wayside - time for a revival!
Do some study every day
-keep on top of assignments
-do some at lunch time or after the kids are in bed
-no procrastinating!

I have lots of things I would like to work on
1. Go for a walk with DD at least 3 times a week with her in the pram or carrier
2. Do the dishes before bed (we don't have a dishwasher)
3.Vacuum the whole house once a week (I do the living areas daily but the DD hates the vacuum cleaner so that makes the other end of the house hard to do as it wakes her up and she is too mobile to be left in the lounge on her own)
So...
THINGS TO CHANGE - WEEK ONE
Do the dishes before bed
ACTION PLAN
Put the dishes in the rack away before dinner
Stack them nicely on the bench after dinner
Do them straight after DDs bath when I put the washing on.

So far today - I woke up at 6am and read my book for 40mins, then we got up at 7.30, the kids had breakfast and I had mine while I read, then we all got dressed and I cleaned the kitchen, it wasnt that abd though as Id done some cleaning as I went along.
I then read while the kids played, and have only just turned the computer on about 20 mins ago!

I've made the decision to do something similar a couple of days ago after some news I got. But to break it down to an even more basic level is a great idea! I am going to:
* Be more patient with my son - growl less, play more
* Get up at 7am every weekday morning instead of lounging about in bed til the last possible second
* Drink more water
* Get back to cooking proper meals rather than quick stirfrys
* Exercise!
* Let people know how much they mean to me more readily
* Let go of old hurts and focus on happy memories
* Once a fortnight do something I've never done before

-Do the washing at night & hang it out in the morning.
-Clean the kitchen as I go.
-Get back into my routine: get up...fed kids, make lunches, pack bags, make beds, hang washing out, clean kitchen, walk or drive to school...
-Get the kids bags done at night & clothes ready.
-Enforce the homework done before tv & gaming rule & don't give in.
-Enforce the tidy up rule before dinner time.
-Plan meals better, shop 1x a week & buy better food for the money I spend.
-Save more $$
-Spend more on me
hmm think that is it for now

I sucked at getting to bed early last night! But I wasn't on the puter til 10.30pm & even DH commented I was actually watching TV. I said yeah cause once you aren't watching boring sucky programs.
So tonight I'll try again!

Okay my one thing to change this week is to eat breakfast every day at approximately the same time every day.
Action plan:
1. get up before DH gets up and jump in shower then.
2. get DS up and prepare our brekkies.
3. eat brekkie (not bikkies)
shouldn't be hard should it lol....

once you get used to get used to having breakfast every day you will never go back .
From when I was about 13 until I started working full time after I graduated from University (aged 23) I just about never ate before 10am. Once I started working I had breakfast and now I can not manage without it
good luck for those starting today and tomorrow. I have had my two pieces of fruit (and two pieces of chocolate ) but my water intake is not going so well - off to have a glass now

Well I've only just ready thios thread now. But at the beggining of this week I decided I have to have ALL more housework done bbefore I get onto computer. And so far I've done it. I already do most things most you lot don't. Need to eat more fruit. Eat less Chocolate (much much much less, I say this while eating chocolate, but drinking water) Spend less money and save more.

Bugger, I had been going so well but didn't get to bed till 10.45pm, then read my book - should have gone earlier as have been up since 4am with DS crying! Have made note to self to be strict with myself from tonight as it's worth it to get a few more minutes sleep!
What day are we starting the next thing we want to change?
