My DS will be 4 at the end of September so we have decided that we might try and get him out of his night pull-ups.
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to how we can help him to not wet the bed. We are limiting his drinks after 5pm, making sure he goes to the toilet before bed. Last night was our first trial and I checked on him at 3am and found he was wet but still asleep. Has anyone tried the bed wetting alarms? TIA ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I'm not gonna be much help...but I got my baby those conni pads so I don't need to change the entire bed if his nappy leaks.
But they are supposed to be for older kids...I think there must be some theory on the kids feel wet but the pad absorbs most of the liquid....not entirely sure. But, they are great for minimising bed changes if that helps! -------------

We got our boys up at 10pmish to go to the toilet when TT and quite often would sleep the rest of the night and be dry in the morning. We still get them both up now to see if they want to go to the toilet when we got to bed. josh will often want to go but Andrew doesn't now. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

We started with M when she turned 4. Like Mummybecks we would get her up at 10pm to go toilet. It worked a couple of nights but then there were the nights she would wet before I got her on the toilet and nights when she'd make it through until about 4-5am then wake up beside herself because she'd wet her pants. She was getting so upset about it, and I was having to do extra washing and shower her every morning, so we decided to put it off until the weather improves. -------------

My son will be 4 next month and is really desperate to start wearing his undies to bed.
Unfortunately he is just not ready yet and is only staying dry through the night 2-3 nights a week. We've tried lifting him before we go to bed but he gets very worked up and will not pee. We've also tried limiting drinks but it hasn't seemed to change anything either. I think it will just be a question of time for him and like MrsMojo, we'll just wait for summer and try ditching the pullups then. Good luck! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

ange I have a friend who has used the alarm. She got it through the dr who told her that it generally isn't effective until about age 7. Her daughter was a heavy sleeper so she had to sleep in their room so that she would hear the alarm to wake her up. They were successful in getting her dry but she was a lot older than your son.
Interestingly the dr (may have been a pead) told her that limiting drinks won't reduce bed wetting in most cases and advised not to limit drinks. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

With both my girls we stopped nappies at night same time as day nappies.. I just found when wearing the naps they would just pee and without they would hold on... They def had a few night time accidents at the start (that's where the plastic sheet comes in handy) but DD 2.6 is completely dry day and night now... so I think it's just a matter of them learning subconciously to hold on IYGWIM... we do still limit drinks at night and she goes potty right before bed, and then she holds on for about 12 hours - much better than I can do  I think if last night was your first trial you should maybe just give it a few more nights before worrying about an alarm or anything as he may just get it ... Jake got a chemical burn right round his bottom so we had to night-train him (already day-trained) coz we couldn't put a nappy on him. I used sheets of PUL from my nappy stash layered with sheets (easy to pull off and the bed is stll made IYKWIM) and a woolen blanket underneath it all.
We made sure he was toasty warm and a drop in temp can set their peeing reflex off, didn't stop him drinking at all - it doesn't work, took him to the toilet when we went to bed and again around 3am. Two weeks and he was averaging one accident a week which isn't bad for a 2 and 3/4yo. -------------
