Hi, i am planning on having baby at home in a pool, i have the option of hiring a birth pool from the hospital or somewhere similar which are specifically designed for birhting in, however, i also thought about buying a pool, which would be about the same price maybe a bit cheaper like the intex brand pool, only concern is that the sides are not as strong as i wont be able to lean on them - does anyone have any advice or pros and cons or what they have used
thanks heaps

I don't have personal experience with water birth although I did look into the pools when I was pregnant think I might use it during labour. I would imagine the sides of those cheaper pools wouldn't be strong enough to support your weight.

Check out http://www.aquabub.co.nz/index1.html - Aquabub and http://www.h2ohbaby.co.nz/product.php?categoryid=1 - H2ohbaby

They both sell and hire birthing pools.

I just bought a pool from Payless Plastics, they are bigger in circumference than an actual ''birth pool " so use a bit more water. It was great and I thinkit cost us $50 . Hubby pumped it up till the sides were quite firm and they were perfect to lean on, I had no problems whatsoever, and boy was I leaning lol.
I know a few ladies who have also used pools from The Warehouse.

Good on you for going for a home waterbirth, I had one in January and it the best experience

Does your midwife not have one? My midwife co-op had several pools and they just loaned us one. Would have bought one had we needed to.
