Me and my partner have decided to TTC. I had blood tests done on friday to see if I am immune to rebuella etc but I was actually quite surprised not knowing to be tested beforehand.
I know the doc said there can be severe risks from babies being affected but has anyone else got stories/info about whether you do/do not have the vaccines or are immune to the above things. |

hi there i had all routine TTC bloods done prior to starting and everything for me came back all clear. i think that if you are not immune to rubella then they vaccinate you and you have to wait 3 mths before TTC. hopefully you will have your results back soon and can be full steam ahead on your TTC journey. best of luck hun. ------------- http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">  http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">

Hi there molly,
I was just really surprised that I'd never heard of friends/family etc having blood tests for those kind of specific things beforehand, I was a little taken back. Definitely need to ask the doctor 'everything' that I should know beforehand, google doesn't answer everything 
I am ringing tomorrow to find out results so thanks for that! |

Hi I found out after I was pregnant that I wasn't immune to Rubella, BUT my doctor and MW told me they would have to test me again after giving birth as the blood test can be inaccurate and say you have low immunity when you actually have sufficient immunity iygwim.

It is a routine pre-natal blood test that GPs recommend you have.

I had my jabs etc back when I was about 11/12 but yes doc said they can wear off after about 10yrs.
Finding it really difficult here (australia) though as things are so much different here (public vs private hosp, insurances etc) to NZ but we want to have a baby once/when it happens in NZ. And thanks guys for the comments, keeping the ttc topic a secret between partner and myself at the moment so you guys are definitely helping

Sonnycraig, we live in north queensland too...nice to see a local on the boards lol....we live up near Bowen, about 3 hours drive from Mackay.
I was told that my rubella immunity had worn off so was given another shot and was also told that I only had to wait for 1 month before trying.....it WAS 3 months and I believe that a lot of people will still say this but the latest news from the people who make the immunisation or some study (I can't remember now) was that 1 month was good. Weirdo thing was that during pregnancy I had some more blood tests and that showed my immunity was still borderline lol so I am guessing it can't guarantee that you will be immune. It is def confusing having a baby over here when all you have heard about is midwife care in NZ!! I had to travel to see my carers which was a mix of hospital doctors and hospital midwives and when the time came to give birth, I just had to have whichever midwife was on, which didn't bother me in the least. In the end she saved me and my baby's life so I was pretty happy with her!!! Oh yeah and probably the reason you don't hear about it is that 1. often people aren't that organised when trying for a baby lol 2. lots of people are still immune so I guess it is not even mentioned 3. I really wish I had a 3 but I don't haha! -------------

I'm in Mackay TaliP so definately know where bowen is and the first thing that came to my mind was gosh your a wee way from the likes of health professionals etc :).
I'm glad you mentioned about the month wait as I had read somewhere else about people only waiting a month (I reallllly don't want to have to wait longer then that lol) but yeah my doc didn't really say too much in depth about trying for a baby when I seen her on friday as she was rushed off her feet etc 
But yeah the process of having a baby over in NZ I've heard alot about and my mother works as a coordinator for health programmes (cervical, immuniisation register, school based HPV vaccine Programme, B4SC check register and HIV antenatal screening programme) soo I'm gonna have alot of information thrown at me when the time comes, somehow I think it's going to drive me a tad insane (thank god I'm over here!! lol). I'm still really undecided about where to have a baby too I mean we do get alot of benefits as kiwis coming to aus anyway but I love this country aswell so even if we did move back to NZ I'd be itching to come back very soon after lol |

Yeah, def a long way, had to travel 3hr round trip to see the midwives!!! Sucked big time. We live in Collinsville which is teeny tiny.

| Wow I thought Mackay was small lol but at least they have loads of health centres etc. My partner is working out at Moranbah at the moment and I was surprised how small that place was and yet it had a hospital lol suppose they do need it though :) |

DH is looking at a job in Moranbah but not sure I wanna move there!!! At least here it is only an hour to the coast and 3 hrs to either Townsville or Mackay so we have more options!!!
We have a hospital here but we can't have babies here and if someone goes into labour they get helicoptered out! I had to go stay in Proserpine for two weeks leading up to DS birth...it sucked!!! Esp in January..had to stay in a campsite coz the motels suck...at least the cabin had air con lol! -------------

Oh yeah moranbah is where the money is but not much else lol. My partner is currently staying at a camp (looks like a hotel and the rooms are done up hotel style) so I don't mind staying there (they have double rooms which we haven't asked about yet cos I can't really stay more than one night!!) But drivewise I prefer moranbah its just a very very small place for me lol
Helicoptered out, oo thats freaky! lol hate heights so I would have hated that myself
And thanks for that, I have his other car but it's manual, not sure I'd be able to go see him now! even though he's back in two days I'm just too excited hehe |
