My DD is reasonably constipated this week - she is also teething badly so i i am not sure if it is a conincidence or not

We have tried to get her to eat prunes (which she normally likes but wont eat at the moment), brown sugar in water, kiwi fruit, kiwifruit juice diluted in water etc.

She either wont take it or isnt working!

Any more hints before i take a trip to chemist as she is waking up crying in the night trying to push out a poop!

K

Try massaging her tummy just under her tummy button. I also pedal DS's legs like a bike (up by his tummy) and this usually gets things moving!

Otherwise we try water and as a last resort we got some coloxyl drops from the chemist which are good.

I used to look after a baby who had this problem a couple of times. Poor thing!

Try a spoonful of black strap molasses. It only takes one and before they know it it's in their mouth and gone before they have time to protest.

Otherwise, just keep up the fibre intake. Wholemeal bread and breakfast cereals she can have at this age, and plenty of water and fruit! If things don't improve, you'll need to take her to the doctor for some lactulose or a suppository if the Dr thinks it warrants it.

important thing if massaging the abdomen is to do it clockwise, avoid massaging anti-clockwise.

and like the others have said, avoid bananas, and keep trying to see if she'll eat some prunes! Or maybe mix some prune juice with water? The Doctor would prescribe Lactulose from the chemist which is basically just a very concentrated sugar/liquid, so if she can take prune juice it should work the same.

Pears are also good for constipation, and lots of water. Would she maybe eat a puree of pears and prunes?
good luck!
