Hi I gave firth on the 22nd feb this year and got AF back 4 weeks later, it was pretty much like it used to be 5 days long, 3 of which were pretty heavy. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago (2 lots of AF later) and I got a mirena inserted. I know they told me that AF may change and the first couple may be a bit heavy but I have been bleading for 8 days now, 7 of which have been really heavy.

has anyone else experienced this? When should i be thinking about seeing a doctor, or do i just ride it out and hope the next one is better?

TIA

i was told the first 3 months can be anything from OMG heavy to huh was that my AF?

for me i had a D and C the day it was fitted (would have been due for AF) so had the heavy AF from that for 3 days, and then it was spotting for a few days.

now i would be well and truely due for AF again (had it fitted 5 and half weeks ago), and am yet to see AF or have any spotting.

i think a Dr will tell you its normal unless you have severe pain that could indicate dislodgement

I got a mirena at my 6 week check and for the next 6 weeks I was spotting, not sure if it was lochia still or spotting for the mirena... if you are worried ring your doctor, better to check and it be ok than not if its not aye.

from the mirena website...

Q. Will my periods change with Mirena?
A.
For the first 3 to 6 months, your monthly period may become irregular. You may also have frequent spotting or light bleeding. A few women have heavy bleeding during this time. Call your healthcare provider if the bleeding remains heavier than usual. After your body adjusts, the number of bleeding days is likely to decrease, but may remain irregular, and you may even find that your periods stop altogether for as long as Mirena is in place.

Around the end of the third month of use, you may see up to a 75% reduction in the amount of menstrual bleeding.1 Call your healthcare provider if the bleeding becomes heavy after it has been light for a while.

By one year, about 1 out of 5 users may have no period at all. Your periods will return once Mirena is removed. If, after the start of your last period, you go 6 weeks without another period, contact your healthcare provider to rule out pregnancy.

I bled for 3 months straight, some heavy, some hardly anything. Now I get a period once every 2-3 months (have had it for 7 months)

I'm the same as Emz, but have had it in for slightly less time.

I'm the opposite to everyone...I've had mine in now for 8 months, and had one light AF in March that lasted about a week, and that's all the bleeding that I've had since I got it put in...

I ahve had mine in for almost 15 months now. First few months I wanted it out, I hated it and wanted the next surgery. I held out the 6 months and it settled. Since Feb this year I have had 5 days of very light bleeding and that is it - no pain no nothing. I do actually love mine now.

Im still waiting patiently for an AF but alas i think its just not coming

TMI: all the possible spotting ive had is actually discharge from my wound from my cyst removal according to my Dr so yea apparently i shouldnt expect anything as im regular 28-30 days when not on contraception and its been 40 days since it got put in

I've heard of women bleeding for three months continuous after having the mirena inserted which is kinda scary but if your periods all but vanish after that then its worth it!!!

I also had bleeding for 3 months after having mine put in. It was more like a normal AF at first but eased to spotting within 2 weeks.
After that I got regular, slightly lighter periods for about a year and then very, very light ones after that.

One thing to keep an eye on is your iron levels. Mine went through the floor as I'd had nearly 12 weeks of PP bleeding and then another 12 weeks of spotting after.

I am coming up 7 days. I had a bit of pink discharge for 2 days and nothing since. I am shocked. Just wondering if it is too early to celebrate. Anyone else get the bleeding later on or was it all from the start. I am due for my period in the next week.   Also how were the nips. Sorry for TMI but mine have been at attention for 7 days now and it is getting a bit sensitive.

i think i finally got AF but i dunno

its the same color as the discharge i had from surgery...
kind of yellowy - browny but no where near red.
it was a tad heavier than my normal "discharge" but nothing like the super heavy 10-14day AFs i normally get. i had a few cramps but then i also had some dairy during the weekend so had the you know whats

but i seen my Dr for my 6 week check up on Thursday and my Mirena doesnt have strings so im booked in for a scan on Wed 28th to see why.
its either:
A) the string is tucked up into my cerival canal, and its fine the IUD is doing what it should
or B) im pregnant from just before the IUD got put in and cos my uterus grew its pulled the IUD up hence no strings...

DP and i much prefer A, as if its B they cant do anything as the trauma to my cervix to get the IUD out would be instant m/c
