I posted a thread about something and it appears to have vanished. Do the mods not tell you when they remove your thread and why?

Yeah, I find it weird that one is still there but the other isn't and yet the one they have left is more advertising then the second on.

I thinks its rude they don't have an email that it sent if they have removed it.

Bizzy, the one I amlooking for I put up last night and its def gone.

maybe you should email them... i thought it was only against the rules to advertise your own products. otherwise all those posts we make about cool things we see or want to do would be removed too...

are you sure you pushed the submit button? they generally have to have someone report the posts before they notice and remove them?

Was it the Snappy coming to CHCH??? I saw that last night...

I think a pm or email to say you have broken guidelines and your thread has been removed would have been courteous... at least then you would know. I would have posted the same thing not realising it was not allowed.

Hi ladies, and thanks for your opinions. The website moderators don't have to email or PM you when we remove a thread, because we expect that you know the rules. (We do sometimes email the newbies to remind them to read the forum guidelines, but generally we don't email.)

We don't permit advertising of products, services, fundraisers, auctions, donations, etc, without our prior permission, and this includes advertising for other people. If we are informed of a thread or post that is breaching our rules, we will remove it. Our moderators are also checking out the forums from time to time to make sure that everything is on the up and up.

If you do come across any threads that are questionable, please click the Report this Post button, or PM one of your moderators and we'll look into it.

Cheers from Katherine and the OHbaby! Team

Yes that would be great, cos as fair as I was aware it was just you and Emma (when she was working for OB).

Perhaps it is time to look at having an automatic email then as it has caused confusion for all and I have obviously missed replies.

But bizzy has made a good point in that we often put links to cool sites etc up and these are not removed.

One of the threads I started (linked above) has more "advertising" than the one listed so some consistency would probably be a good idea.

Edited to add: I am not attempting to pick and single out anyone but was just curious of the rules. Are any of these advertising?

surely though someone saying - hey i am having a tupperware party - just for examples sake - is anyone interested?... this is what they sell and what they have on special this month... isnt against the rules as it isnt actually advertising. ??

I think the issue is that any advertising, even inadvertent ones that are 'word of mouth' type things could ruffle the feathers of the advertisers who buy space on the site.

For example if someone was talking about how there is a special on Treasures at Foodtown this week it might get Huggies upset as they have a tile space on here.

It's a slippery slope though. I hope this forum doesn't go the way of the Treasures one where you can't even mention cloth nappies without getting in trouble and having the thread removed.

Plus there have been a few threads that don't breach any rules but obviously make the mods uncomfortable that have been removed in the past. In those cases I think an email would be courteous. Also when posts within a thread are removed even though they don't breach rules - such as when someone posted less than complementary feedback on the mag (feedback that was solicited by OB) - it would be good to put a comment in rather than just removing it.

I don't get what the difference is between someone asking if anyone is interested in a photoshoot when its not the photographer doing the asking vs pretty much all the threads in the product review section and cloth nappy discussion as they are all saying for or against certain brands and then how about the odd thread asking if anyone is wanting to get together for a "x product" party (like tupperware, nappichinos etc).

I would understand a thread getting removed for advertising reasons if the photographer or creator/seller of a product/service started it but not if some random person does asking about it or raving about the service or what have you. Its not really any different between those sorts of threads and people coming on asking for the best place/person for xyz service..

Where is the actual line? Cause it doesnt seem to be that consistant.

I don't see the line either.

What I also don't understand why mods can't just edit an offending post with the reason and then lock it.
It would give us lay people a better idea of what's not allowed.

I guess this stuff is the downside of a forum being run by a company rather than a community.

ETA: Bobbie at least the Treasures forum notified you if you were posting a message that would be reviewed by Admin

Hi everyone, and thank you for your feedback and opinions. We'll certainly take them into consideration. Decisions about which threads to remove are made on a case-by-case basis by our team and there may be a number of reasons why certain threads are removed or left in place, but the bottom line is that it is entirely at our team's discretion. Unfortunately we don't have the ability or the resources to explain or notify each and every time something is removed.

You'll find everything you need to know in the Forum Guidelines and Messages from Admin board at the very top of the message boards, including who your moderators are. If you need to get in touch with any of us, we are:

Angela (Angie Baby) - mailto:angela@ohbaby.co.nz - angela@ohbaby.co.nz
Katherine (Katherine) - mailto:katherine@ohbaby.co.nz - katherine@ohbaby.co.nz
Kelly (Kelz) - mailto:kelly@ohbaby.co.nz - kelly@ohbaby.co.nz

I'm going to lock this thread now, but thank you for your opinions and feedback, and we'll certainly take your thoughts into consideration.

Cheers from Katherine and the OHbaby! Team
