I've decided that enough is enough pretty much. Ive given it a bloody good go, but Lily just isnt settling or getting full anymore. I'm having to top her up with formula after every feed and it's so stressful. Even after feeding for an hour off both sides, she still wants more so formula is it for us. I mean, she probably is having a big growth spurt which is fine, but I have a toddler to think about as well who is getting super sh*tty because mummy is constantly feeding the baby and I dont have any time for him :(

My question is, apart from taking milk stop or whatever it is, is there anything else i can do to help stop the milk production? I'm *hoping* that i'm going to be seeing my midwife this week - havent seen anyone since last week and i'm not sure if my MW is even back from holiday! Help!

hey,
I just stopped. Cold Turkey.
Hurts for about 2 days... well uncomfortable more than hurts... but I never had much milk anyways. Then things dry up.
I never took anything.

I had tons of milk (i stopped at 3 months) but what I did was half the feeds. So every 2nd feed was formula rather than breast and did that for a couple of days and then stopped. I had rock hard boobs the next day, just hand expressed a teeny bit to take the edge off and then it was fine.

Cabbage leaves and binding your breasts works quite well too.
Pop the leaves in your bra and then get DH or someone to bind right around with a normal crepe bandage or similar.
Good luck!

I went cold turkey and got mastitis, so I would just gradualy cut the feeds down, or express off a bit in the shower each day so you dont have that build up. You could also try the milk stop pills from the health shop, its natural. I used the milk flow in the same range to up my supply and it was brilliant!

Cold cabbage in your bra works wonders, just put it in cold and change it every 2-3 hours. I couldn't BF with DS and this is the advice I was given by my MW, it sounds a bit daft but it worked and within 2-3 days I was no longer engorged and sore and not long after that it stopped altogether.

I expressed around 4 times a day and gradually reduced it. I had no pain at all (although I bearly had any milk either!! ), Eventually I was down to expressing once a day and in the end just stopped.

I'm also going cold turkey so will hand express for comfort as I have a lot of milk. I'm going cold turkey as per paediatricians recommendation. How long does it generally take for the milk to dry up and boob size to decrease/return to normal?

Well it seems after 2 days of doing only 1 feed a day things have settled and im not uncomfortable at all! And that was with a tonne of milk as well.

I'll have a look at that. Today I noticed small lumps on the underside of my boobs. I really hope I dont end up with any mastitis!

Massage the lumps Alex, do it in the shower as the heat helps.

I am on day three of no breast feeds - went cold turkey and DS took the bottle straight away - after 10 weeks of trying. Anyway, boobs are big and sore. I had express a bit when I have to for comfort, but they dont seem to have any less milk or be shrinking... I am also taking milk stop...

When I stopped breastfeeding I'd hand express and massage out the lumps as much as I could as I was scared about getting mastisis again too. I'd do it a few times a day at the beginning and then the need got less and less.
