He has always been a strong baby and we have recently been letting him pull up to stand while holding our hands - He LOVES it. He looks so proud of himself while he's doing it.
Only now he won't sleep, and I've just worked out that it's because he doesn't want to stop standing

So my question is how long do they refuse to sleep after learning a new trick? I know he's having lots of fun and all, but he was crying until 12.30 last night before falling asleep on me!

I want my self settling baby back!

Hope you have some success soon. Its so sad when they are tired and won't sleep!

My only advice would be to avoid letting him stand until he is ready to pull himself up (usually around eight plus months). Its better for their muscle development if you keep them lying flat at that age.

Both my boys have been the same and have been pulling up like that at roughly the same age. I can't help on the sleeping thing though as my boys are both crappy sleepers so didn't really notice the difference.

My MIL (retired MW) said that it usually takes them 7-10 days after a new trick to settle but she also believes that they get overstimulated in the care tc so not sure if thats quite right

I agree, after Lily learns a new trick it takes about a week to settle. She's just learned to scream... Lol so as you can imagine...

One thing I would suggest - if the problem is just to get him to lay down long enough to go to sleep - is to use a safety sleep. They are awesome. There were times that I just knew that Amelia needed to lie down and she would be off to sleep but she kept sitting up or standing up. I put her in the safety sleep and she coudn't physically get up. You can do it tightly or loosely depending on whether you want him to be turning over in his sleep.

Mine was a life saver with my two, especially for Isabella, as she always wanted to stand!
