HI, all of a sudden my girl has decided to stop feeding during the day, she has 3-4 good feeds at night and before bed but wont latch on during the day even though she is starving!! so going up to 11 hours without a feed for 3 days now and lots of crying.
it seems she is too hyper and distracted and too impatient to wait for the milk to let down and too hysterical to drink once it has.The Plunket nurse suggested I pick her up while she is asleep for daytime feeds - which has been working, and I have to express a little to get the milk flowing beforehand so she doesnt get to impatient!
she wont take a bottle either! I have tryed cutting all sorts from my diet, anyone else experienced this?

When Lily did this it was because she had a sore tummy... We were told to keep trying, I found - and it wasn't too great $$ wise, but she would settle in the car and then have a feed

I found out the sore tummy was due to my diet.

You do have to wake some babies for regular 3hrly feeds. I did with mine to begin with. When she is screaming with frustration till your milk lets down, just persevere and make sure you are not tensing up - relax your arms around her and tell yourself to relax (tension really gets them uptight) and gently keep her held to your nipple.... She will get through it.

I highly recommend seeing a lactation consultant from the Plunket Family Cntr. I saw Joan at Henderson and she was amazing. My baby refused the breast for 4wks and I finally got him on.... used to just scream.

hi thanks for the tips, day 5 now and still refusing to feed while she is awake, so still picking her up while she is asleep to feed - which is a bit of a pain, because I have to rock her to sleep twice and she is not much of a day time sleeper, but im pleased somthing is working because it was very stressfull seeing her starving hungry and crying.
