I just received one & it is a few months away. The trial is expected to last 2 weeks.
At first I thought no way...kids, blah blah, but DH told me I should go & he will do the kids & house stuff. He is going to talk to his boss next week so he can have leave for however long needed. It may only be 1 day or could be longer depending on if they want me. So has anyone done it? I will bus in & it says to take a book to read....what do you need? |

there is no guarentee you'll be chosen. each lawyer has a certain number of ppl he can say no to cos he doesnt like the look of them etc... you do get paid for it though so if DH is gonna get leave might be worth it for the extra money? i only got to the first stage where you walk up and they say whether they want you or not so i cant help much but there is alot of waiting round. the refund transport costs and stuff too -------------

lots of waiting around - definitely take a book. When i went there were about 70 of us there and they only needed two juries of 12 so the chances of getting picked weren't high.
I was picked, but the trial i was on only lasted a day. i got the travel back and the cost of daycare for the day i was on ------------- |

monikah did you get paid for the time you were there? It says $31 for 1/2 day.
I am not bothered if not chosen for any & DH will just go back to work so no probs there. Eating in town won't help my diet any

Did they say how long on your letters it would be? The booklet says about a week unless stated on your letter & mine says 2 weeks....but if I don't get picked I might just hit the shops, lol

I did it years ago. I got picked and the trial lasted for a week. Was really boring, but did get paid for it and transport. And on the last night we got to have dinner at the Hyatt since we were still deciding on a verdict. But I wouldn't want to do it again. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I did it once. Can't say there was much waiting around though. They had the picking of the jury done within an hour and the trial started a little after that and lasted 4 days.
You'll have to decide if there are certain subjects you don't want to be a part of though. Ours was a sexual abuse case with a girl under the age of 12 so it was rather icky and were told this in advance and one of the people picked said they didn't want to be a part of it. |

I did it a couple of years ago and found it really interesting.
There were two trials, one lasted a couple of days and one went for 2 weeks. I got chosen for the 2 week one. I met some really nice people and I quite enjoyed it even though the trial was a bit mundane (benefit fraud). Didn't find there was too much waiting around. They were pretty quick with processing people. All in all I found it good and I just really wanted to do it to be part of a jury (and to get a couple of weeks off work because my boss was driving me up the wall!  ) , but probably wouldn't do it again.-------------
