Just wondering if anyone knows anyone who does this. I saw it on fair go and was concerned that a mobile phone by the babies head might be a bit of a worry with the whole radiation thing.
Whats your thoughts?
I spose you could just put it in the room with baby and not like fair go who put it in the babies cot right by the babies head.

I saw that too! No way would I put a mobile phoned by my babys head for hours on end - how would do that? And wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a baby monitor rather than another mobile phone?

That seems madness! wouldn't it be MUCH cheaper to just use monitors. I didn't see it but there is no way I'd be putting a mobile phone next to a babies head... I try to discourage my 13 year from talking on her phone as I don't like the idea of her developing brain being exposed for long periods of time. Luckily she mainly texts as can't afford phone calls...

What's this? I didn't see it!! By the sounds of it though I don't think I would either... How would it work? Wouldn't it cost you money??

I saw it, someone was apparently using their bestmate unlimited calling as a baby monitor . Goodness knows if it actually happened or was some kind or urban myth, they also said some people wouls stay on the line late at night with their boy/girlfriends, then fall asleep & stay on the line all night!!
Vodafone are capping it at 1000 minutes & 1000 txts per month to stop people abusing the plan!

I thought it was quite clever but surely it would drain your phone so much you'd be constantly charging it up?
Also I'm pretty sure Fair Go just showed the phone next to the baby's head to illustrate what people were supposedly doing, I seriously doubt anyone would actually stick a cell phone in a cot.

Ah bestmate that makes sense!
I thought they changed it to 100 mins calling not 1000??
Dp and I used to have best mate when we first got together, was great for long convos lol
You could place the phone on the other side of the room though and it would work, like how you can hear people in the background in calls iygwim?

How on earth do people think of these things.. I think it's a ridiculous idea using phones as a monitor!!
The capped plan is only for pre-paid customers which is a bit odd, there's always one person that ruins if for everyone!

I used to do it with a regular phone It was never by her head just in the room and I could hear her fine. We would do it occasionally if I had to pop over to my parents ( a few meters across the back yard) I could see right into her room too so it was no different to her being at the other end of the house.

I was trying to be neutral when I asked for opinions but thought it was a bit crazy. I did start the thread before finishing the program and fair go did say that it wouldn't be wise to put a cell phone that close to the babies head at the end of the program.

its only the pre-pay customers that are being capped.. not the contract deals..
thats what all the comotion was about...
I dont think people would really use it as a monitor.. would they ??
