It was my second day back at work today ( after a year maternity leave)  and i got a call an hour in from Amelias preschool saying she had hand , foot , and mouth , Fantastic!!! not even a week back and i have to take sick leave . I really dont know anything about this so was just wondering a few things : how serious does it get ? , will she be off her food ? should i take her to doctor ? will she need antibiotics ? anything else i should expect ? thanks guys i apreciate it

I have no idea about it sorry.

There must be an outbreak though, half the kids from playcentre have it, i just hope DD doesnt get it.

What are the symptoms, other than blisters?

* just realised i have a spelling error- title was meant to say: hand , Foot , and mouth lol altho i guess you will all get that

well i didnt notice any symptons, but last monday she had a bit of a fever and they said this could of been the start of it altho it was over a week ago so not too sure about that . The preschool gave her a nap today and she slept for 2 1/2hours (most unlike her) and when she woke up she had wee spots on her hands and feet .

I think it can vary from child to child. DS had it about 3 months ago and he was so miserable. He had spots all in his mouth so couldn't eat anything, even swallowing water was painful. He wanted to eat but everytime he did he screamed in pain. He woke often in the night and was really irritable. I took him to the doctor to confirm my suspicions but they just told me to keep him away from preschool until the spots disappeared. Lemonade ice blocks were great for him as they eased the pain a bit.

I am almost positive that DD had it too looking back but other than saying her mouth was sore she still ate and drank fine and wasn't too bothered by it, she never got spots though so who knows.

Hope your wee one doesn't get too sick, it's so hard for them.
