Hi ... just wondering at what age you stopped giving your little ones milk to drink regularly? I know they should have 2 milk drinks from 12 months - but til when? Toddler formulas say 1-3yrs .... so I'm assuming til they are turning 4? Or do most people stop by the time they're 2 or 3?
I've been giving Jake the recommended 2 milk drinks a day for toddlers (12mths +), a mix of toddler formula and cows milk ..... but recently he has been having a bit less - like daycare don't do milk in the over 2's room so he has no daytime milk on the two days he goes there (which increases to 3 days in a couple of weeks). And we are finding with having a cup of milk before bed that his naps sometimes leak (he's not too keen on TT, but we will never get him night TT'd if he pee's so much over night!) - so I'm assuming when people TT overnight they stop milk before bed?? He is not too fussed if we don't give it to him, but wants a snack instead as he has dinner quite early. The other cup of milk he has is with his lunch or after lunch (before nap) but most days he doesn't drink much of it now. I'm not concerned nutritionally (he has yoghurt most days and some cheese and choc milk when we're out, plus I'm a food tech / nutritionist) but just curious really ..... ------------- DS (5yrs) and DD (3yrs) |

I cant really comment cause Ethan is only 2 and a bit but he has a cup of milk in the morning and water the rest of the day unless he asks for more milk.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

| Daniel doesn't have milk drinks during the day, he always asks for water. But at night he demands his milk. I'm happy to keep giving it to him so long as he wants it. When he no longer wants it he will stop getting it. Thats my attitude to it. I'm not gonna listen to what he "should" be having or doing. |

Go with your instinct, Seems like he is getting enough calcium so I wouldn't worry too much. I can't remember when we stopped Alexandria's regular main milk drink. Probably around 3-4 years old. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

So Daniel is still in nappies over night I take it? Do people who have TT stop the milk before bed?
I'm not concerned at all, or worried about what he "should" have .... just curious about when others stopped .... Giving him milk in the morning instead is a good idea.  ------------- DS (5yrs) and DD (3yrs) |

Ella has some milk in the morning and then sometimes a glass a milk during the day when she asks for it. We just treat it like any other normal drink. Up until recently she was having a milo before bed, but she wasn't really drinking that much of it so we have stopped it ad she didn't really care. We figured the same as you Nikki- she is TT during the day but not at night but we thought we might as well stop it now to get used to it (not that it stops her nappy being full in the morning). ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

Wow, plunket would go nuts if they new how much Milla still had, still a full bottle before her nap and then again and bed so 400 to 500 mls a day - and sometimes she asks for more when I go to bed
I have recently tried to reduce her nap bottle to 100 mls, but it depends what time that nap is as to how much I give her I will stop giving it to her when she stops asking for it ------------- http://lilypie.com]

| Sam didn't want or like milk for ages after we stopped his night time bottle at just before 2. Just recently though he has been asking for it and will have 2-3 cups a day. He doesn't ask for it before bed, and doesn't have much water at that time, but he still wakes up with a very full wet nappy. He is TT during the day now but I don't even know when to start nighttime TT. He's only just turned 3. |

Cooper has as many bottles as he wants and I really don't care what the guidelines say..

Emily stopped having having her millk drink before bed when she was about 18 months old. She just didn't want it anymore (I also found once they stopped the night time leaks stopped too). As for milk during the day, she likes to have a smoothie in the morning with her breakfast like mummy does, and has done for a year now - I jsut make it up with banana, blueberries, plain yoghurt and regular milk. She will have milk or a cold milo during the day only if she asks for it, but otherwise she just likes to drink water. TBH I've never really followed the "recommendations". It's much easier to just follow your child's cues and go with it, otherwise you just end up wondering if you're doing things the "right" way. -------------
