Okay for the past 2 nights my son (16months) has woken up hysterical. He has had a temp of 38.5...I have rung healthline and they advised to not take him to the Dr unless it gets over 40.

He has been extremely clingy, and has been really sleepy during the day.

During the night he has been waking up screaming, I have given pamol...but after 1.5hours he is at it again....He doesn't usually scream like this.

He has a few teeth coming through....People with exp...does this sound like teething? He is so distraught.

He just woke up having fits almost. He even gave himself a blood nose.
When we pick him up and carry him he seems to be fine....I rung health line when I saw the blood nose and they said take him to starship....
But he is fine when we pick him up so I don't think it is that serious. We were just about to take him there...but when we picked him up he was happy and smiling...

Advice please    I am at a real loss.

Oh heck, you poor thing! DD did something similar a couple of weeks ago while her top molar finished pushing through, no bloody nose though!

No real advice though, but , you probablly need them this morning.

I'd say take him to the Dr. Bloody nose is a bit odd/unsettling.

Could well be an ear infection. DD#1 had an ear infection with almost every tooth! This would account for his high temperature.

I would get him to the doctor to check it out asap. The fit you describe sounds like a febrial convulsion. They can be quite dangerous as during the fit the baby can stop breathing.

I don't want to scare you but I think any temperature over a 24 hour period means that there is an underlying issue. I always say to be safe rather than sorry.

Let us know how it turns out and all the best.

Thank you for the help guys.

We do have a teething necklace, I will get some teethmed stuff too. He has about 6 teeth coming through all at once so I guess it is most likely that or an ear infection. If he does it again tonight I will def take him to the DR. maybe it is flaring up at night as it is colder or something.
It is weird as he only has the temp at night...during the day he hasn't got one at all.

Is it normal for them to get really tired while teething? He has been needing to have an extra sleep in the day all of a sudden, and has fallen asleep in his high chair a couple of times.

I'm going through something similar to this at the moment (without the fitting mind) - he wakes up and screams and is absolutely distraught. Then when we sit him up for the most part he is fine. BUT just cries and cries when we go to put him back to bed.

I think if it's teething, I would imagine that when they're lying down they get a throbbing pain which would explain why he's happier when he's sitting up.

I've just put ours down to teething/growth spurt and new developmental milestone (walking).
