My boy always has so much wind! I burp him when he wakes up, during feeds and between switching sides and before he goes down for a sleep. Often during his day sleeps he will wake up crying/screaming and once I pick him up, a burp comes out.
When he is playing on the floor on his tummy or back, he starts screaming, so I pick him up and eventually a burp will come out. He does have reflux and is on ranitidine at the mo for that (doens't seem to be working at this stage tho) so I don't know if the wind is a part of his reflux??? I use the baby whisperer technique which works sometimes, and over the shoulder and him sitting on my lap and patting/rubbing his back. We have used infacol as well. Does anyone have any other ideas? Sometimes its not a problem getting the wind out, its just that there seems to always be so much of it. i thought that as he got older that it would get easier but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyone in the same boat, or have some suggestions? any natural products? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

how does he feed. DS had reflux too and would often be too windy from drinking too fast`or us using the wrong teets. the nuk bottles are really good esp if you have the right type of teet on it. im not sure about with BFing though, is the latch ok? -------------

I read somewhere that it's really common for babies to wake up crying, mum gets them up, baby burps and mothers mistakenly think the reason baby was crying is because of wind when infact it's more than likely another reason but the crying and screaming tends to CREATE wind itself. Does that make sense? So you might want to look into some other things maybe? Teething? Tired? Cold? Hot? Wet/dirty nappy? If baby if BF, perhaps try taking some Probiotic tablets yourself, he'll get the goods from that which should help settle his tummy if it is wind. Thanks Mum2Mac, that does make sense. I must check his gums to see if I can feel any teeth coming through.

It could be something you are eating. You could try cutting various things out of your diet? Dairy is one possibility, as are some of the *gassy* veges. Or what sets you or your DH off? ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I don't eat brocolli, cauliflower or onions anymore. I have tried cutting out dairy a few weeks ago and tried introducing it back in last week. He still had a lot of wind when I was dairy free but he wasn't screaming as much.
So I have gone dairy free again as of this week as we didn't have much success with having some in my diet. Hopefully I will notice a difference soon. Maybe I just have a really windy baby! This breastfeeding stuff sure isn't easy! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

for my baby it was dairy that caused the problems and when i cut it out his wind settled down a lot, it took about 3-4 days to notice a difference (he was also very spitty uppy/refluxy which went away but comes back if I even have the tiniest bit of dairy). If you have any allergy histories in your family you might want to try cutting out whatever others are allergic to (both my brother and i were sensitive to dairy as babies so it was easy for me to work this one out)
Also, although you say that getting the wind out isn't a problem, my dh discovered a nice way to wind which is to lie on the bed with baby lying on its tummy on your chest, and gently pat the back with both hands alternately - I found that when ds gets really worked up with wind he won't get it up and he finds this quite settling and it allows him to relax and get a good amount of air up -------------

I took Cooper to the baby ostepath and started him on probiotics and that seemed to help with his wind, or at least the upsetness of it, as often he'll burp when he wakes too.
One of my favourite burping positions was one we call little buddha  you put their back to your tummy, put their soles of their feet together - like a buddha - and slowly bend at the middle. Often burps that hadn't come out using other methods popped out with this.
Do you eat peanut butter? That was one thing the ostepath told me to cut out. But because I did that, went to her and started probiotics all at the same time, I'm not sure what actually helped. ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

Thanks for the other winding techniques, will give them a shot.
I might see about going to an osteopath again. We went to one when he was about 6 weeks old but didn't notice too much of a difference but will try again and get some probitoics. I don't eat peanut butter, Cody seems to react to nuts so avoid those. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
