Our has only just been properly functional in the last week! The room used to be a spare room with a tv in it. End of last year we re carpeted and got a bedsette which is my 'feeding chair' but we were so unorganised that we didn't end up wall papering or getting the cot set up.
Anyway I can take a pic if you like but it's a VERY small room, 2m by 4m. We have a change table by the door, cot on one side, small draws opposite for clothes, and couch at the other end. We store her pram in the closet hence why we got draws. (But up until a week ago there was a tv in there that took up half the space! )

I'm probably not much help.. Our babies room is HUGE!!
We are having a surprise- so had to decorate neutral...
We wallpapered, so have 3 white walls, and one feature wall...
Along the feature wall we have the cot, and a set of drawers, next to the set of drawers (kinda around the corner) we have the change table. We also have single bed on the opposite wall, and 2 wee bookcases underneath the window (the box type ones?). We also have bassinet sitting next to the cot at the moment.
And the room is still ginormous and empty!
I *think* its functional (ask me again when I actually have a baby!!! hehe) but we set the room up in a way that the change table is under a wee lamp- but around the corner so if you walk past and look in you don't see the "messy" part of the room. And its right next to the cot, with the drawers right there and wardrobe right on the other side!
We put the bed in, so if need be, DH or I can sleep in the "warm" room if we need to (our house is split in half, our room and babies room are kept warm but we don't heat the 2 spare bedrooms). Plus it also fills in a huge gap

Sorry I can't take any photos of the room set up during the day, the sun just streams in there and means nothing really shows up in the photos it's that bright!!!!

functionally its pretty simple. one dressing table. the cots. a lazy boy for feeding or night waking or sitting to read stories. the heater is blocked by the rocking horse he still cant climb over. toys in a net. cloth nappies hanging from the net hook so he cant pull them out. spill clothes, nappy creams etc.. on top of dressing table where he cant get into them. :)

Oh that is just so adorable Monikah
I kinda wish we had a house with smaller bedrooms (I know one day I will regret saying that when we actually move) ....
Cos with the size of babies room, we could still have a ho-down in the middle of the room and invite the whole county

blossombaby, I so know what you mean! I looked at magazines and books for inspiration and all the nurseries were huge and everything seemed to cost alot!
We had a very small room to work with but ended up with a beautiful, functional nursery which we love, and didn't have to spend much.
We bought all our furniture used and refinished it in white, recovered the cushions on the rocking chair with a matching fabric. All the bits and pieces we got on trademe!
Kmart and the Warehouse have inexpensive and cute storage solutions to make the most of a small room.
Little Treasures magazine sometimes has some nice ideas which are more practical.
If you had room you could always put in a single bed or futon for yourself or guests to sleep on, we didn't have room unfortunately! When bubs is older and not in the cot any more will be able to swap for a single bed...
Hope that helps a little! Good luck and have fun, I so enjoyed doing ours, it was so nice to have one little part of the house done and ready for bubs... an oasis in the chaos!

monikah that is so cute, love the painted cupboard, did you do it yourself?
here is a pic showing the storage a bit better
there is also a wee set of drawers for clothes and a small closet which we only use for stuff that doesnt get used much... the drawers and storage baskets are much easier to get to!
moocow you are lucky your room is so huge! will great for bubs to have room to play and you can keep all that big bulky baby stuff like prams there when not using!

Mel i would only advise putting young kids together if you dont mind the crying approach. lol. i have lots of friends who have done it and they've said there has been a lot of crying to start with. im pretty sure shez split her kids up again cos they would sleep so it will be a wait and see thing i think. lol. ill tell ya in a couple months

If you are pushed for space then you can double the chest of drawers as a change table by buying one of those mats. If hubby is a bit handy get some small 2 by 1 wood to edge out the top of the chest of drawers to stop the mat slipping off. Put a shelf over top for wipes and nappies etc. Puts two bits of furniture in one.
ETA it obviously would need to be a lower chest of drawers the same height as a change table but you should be able to find some.

We have a really awkward room that we use as our nursery. Its longish, narrow and small but has a window taking up one of the long walls and the door opens on to the other long wall which is a pain and no built in storage.
This is how it was set up for DS#2, it was basically the same for DS#1 but this time we brought a wardrobe. We didn't know the sex either time so its gender neutral.

Its really hard to set it up so you are happy. I changed DDs room so many times while pregnant, and also after she was born because i didnt always like it how it was.

SO jealous of all you ladies that got to set up a babiys room... al Jae had was a corner in our room with just the bassinette and some stickers by our door... I will finally get to make her own room in 2 weeks time when FIL moves... only a year later than when I wanted it!!
B had a 'nursery' but we couldnt afford any decorations etc, so all we had was the cot, change table, an old wooden box of mine for outgrown clothes, and a wardrobe/draws that ex-MIL picked up at a garage sale.... they are printed photos, not digi tho so cant post the pics on here
I do have some photos of Jaes half of the kids room, but its smaller than most offices, so theres not much at all!
Hope this works!
Corner of our room as a NB
Her half of kids room (set of plastic drawers at the end of the cot, just tucked in the corner but you cant see it on that angle)

I loved decorating Heidis bedroom it was a great outlet for the nesting instinct, I cannot wait to do another one.
This is Heidis room when she was a baby so we had the bassinette and the cot and the arm chair, the chair was an old arm chair of my Nanas covered with a cheap throw. The side tables were my Nanas as well I just cleaned them up and gave them a coat of paint.
Then the same corner now we have a big bed and the cot still. I did the paintings myself and also painted the dots on a cheap paper light shade. My theme was rainbows and elephants, 2 of my fave things.
We got the bookshelf for $200 brand new, but that was probably the most expensive item apart from the cot which was still cheap, alot of things were hand me downs or things I had kept from when I was little like books and toys.
The cupboard were brown veneer with yuck handles and my DH painted them white and we put new handles on, there is tonnes of storage as there is a double wardrobe as well. This is actually the only room in our house that is finished everywhere else is either mid demo or very dated but functional.

heidis mum -that room is sooo nice, so much storage and just the right amoun of floor space...we have two doors, two windows and an "un-doored" wardrobe to content with, so har trying to put things in a spot that works that doesnt cut off the path to our room as the nursery is a walk through to our room....hmmm.....

Thanks Nicola, a lack of wall space does make it hard. We only have one & 1/2 walls with nothing on it, so it took awhile to get things right. I just made sure the cot was on an internal wall and not near a window, then the rest just had to fit. We are really lucky with the storage, its a great way to hide mess

Awww, thats a neat little setup you got going there chick, nice and simple means you can put any kind of decorations to it to 'theme' it, and suits either gender... must be so hard not knowing bubs gender and not being able to buy things with cute little cars and planes, or butterflies and fairies!
I dont have to be jealous much longer, I finally get to set up a room for bubs, even if it IS a year later than planned!! FIL moving in less than 2 weeks

Yeah I made a circle template that I just painted the inside of, the hardest part was the fact that the paper is so fragile that I could not really hold it, but it turned out well and cost $10 max.

These pics were taken quite a while before Isla was born. When we decorated the nursery, we knew we were having a girl but wanted to keep it fairly neutral so we can reuse everything if #2 is a boy. There are more decorations etc in there now that make it a bit more girly ie big mirror with pink frame above the dresser on that blank wall, cute bookcase with bright coloured canvas boxes, pink photoframes on the dresser, lamp with pink shade etc. We only have cot, bedside table, dresser and bookshelf in there. We keep the change table in the lounge and I just feed her inthe lounge too. I had wanted to get a feeding chair for in her room but didn't really have the space.

I made them Just bought the little canvases from Bunnings (cheapest place to get them) and painted them myself, bought some ribbon and things from Spotlight oh and I got the letters there too and painted them and stuck it all together with craft glue! Easy peasy.Maybe I should start selling them on trademe! I was guna get some off there but decided they were too expensive so just made them myself instead. Cost me no more that $20 all up. I have a close up picture of them on Facebook.... how do I copy photo from there to post on here again??

I might have to take a trip to the local spotlight and see what goodies they have and see if I can do my own... I'm not very artisticly minded though...
ETA on FB, open the picture to bigger size, right click and select properties, copy the WHOLE link where it says image URL or something like that, then come back here, just above the reply box is a little button with a photo of a tree, just paste the URL in the box that pops up when you click on the tree and voila! (or just type [IMG] at the start and without the spaces at the end) and it should turn it into a picture

It's pretty easy to do Lisa. They have little packets of stars and flowers and things like that in the aisle where they have the stuff for making invitations and scrapbooks and things. I just got a packet of flower ones and stuck them onto the letters after I'd painted them. And then found a butterfly that I think is mean to be used as a hat/head piece decoration (?) and stuck that on as well. You don't need to be overly artistic, so long as you are capable of painting (which I'm sure you are ) and glueing, you will be fine. I'd offer to make them for you cause I love making stuff like that but I don't know how well they'd travel. Would prob end up getting ruined.
Here's a close up to give you a better idea of what I did.

Aww I love all the nurseries!! We are renting so haven't been able to decorate, and aren't allowed to put any extra hooks on the wall (there was only one in Chelsea's room!) so looks very boring (and also a small room) but here are some pics anyway:
drawers (mine from when I was little)
chair and cot (sorry, Chelsea hasn't made her bed today - slack! )
door with her name on
bookshelf with sheets/books/etc and cloth nappies hanging from wardrobe door
ETA: we didn't have room for a change table so as you can see from the pics we keep her change mat under the cot, and just pull it out at change times, and we keep her stroller in the wardrobe.

Some lovely nurseries - don't have a room to decorate yet - don't even have a house to move to till October will be airforce accommodation so don't want to waste money on repainting walls etc.
I love the wallies and stick em ups - not going for a particular theme - I do love the zoo animals theme from baby city and like colourful accessories.

Some awesome baby rooms! Here's Zac's room... there's been a few changes since the pics were taken - he has a matching duvet cover with the jungle animals on it, the 2nd curtain is made and up, and a cover for the change table mat is made out of the spare curtain fabric. All the jungle animal stuff is from The Warehouse and was really well priced!
Best functional things I love
- shelves above change table... so much easier to get stuff and when bubs is bigger they can't make a mess of it all
- covers made for change table mat... can just throw them in the wash when they get dirty and they really "make" the room when it matches
- plastic storage containers for clothes he doesn't fit yet

Yeah I love love love the shelves. We got a couple of them free. One set is in Harry's room with all his soft toys in it, looks so cute. I've found the change table so good, still use it with Harry at 2 years old.
Oh and both boys have their clothes in their wardrobes... we have wardrobe organisers with shelves. I love it, makes it so much easier to put things away and see what there is.

Ummm they're shelves, the depth is about the same as an oldschool flat cloth nappy folded into a square IYKWIM. Maybe about 3Ocm or something like that... sorry can't measure, sleeping baby on me! They're actually from a daycare, each kid had a little cube with their name on it.
Cubes would def do the same job and would look very cool. If you didn't wanna do the 4 in a square, you could always do 3 in a row too.

Got the bits and pieces for the name blocks.. nzlisajo, were they 4x4 or 6x6 blocks?? the 4x4 ones were barely big enough for the letters, but the 6x6 ones make the letters look tiny lol.. doesnt seem to be any 5x5's available... so I went with the 6x6 cos I figure that leaves room for decorations later...
I bought a cheap toybarrel off TM, and just bought some light curtain type material in the pattern I wanted (bought 5M, but only used maybe half-2/3 of it!), cut enough off to make a 'sleeve' and hand sewed the ends together, then hemmed one end and threaded elastic through one end, which became the base of the barrel, essentially making a double open ended cyclinder, then hemmed the other end and sewed plastic domes around the edge, with the partners on the top inside of the toy barrel, I'll take a photo later to show what I mean
ETA photos
Side seam
Elasticated bottom
Dome on the top (look closely at Snow Whites armpit lol!)
And finally got around to making the fabric canvas blocks for her wall!! Found glue that was strong enough to hold fabric, saving me the trouble of finding a staple gun!

Lisa - I got 5x5 blocks I got mine from bunnings. Did you get yours from spotlight? Can't wait to see how they turn out! I found it so much fun making up Isla's name blocks. I also did a few paintings on canvas. In Isla's room I painted a lion on one and a tiger on another (as she has a zoo animal theme) and I did a random red/black/white painting over 2 canvases for our spare room. I want to make something else for Isla's room. I just don't know what yet.
Definitely going to try making a toy barrel! Thanks for putting pics up! I can't sew to save myself but no harm in trying I guess!
Can't wait till Isla is a bit bigger so I can re-do her room. I always told myself I'd never have a 'girly girl' but now I have a girl, I want her to have a pink room full of fairies and princesses! lol The reason we chose zoo animals for her nursery tho was so we could re-use everything if #2 is a boy.

Ok sorry it's a bit late... I posted on the 1st page but dp only just gave me the camera... Here is my TINY baby's room. Excuse the mess, I am in the process of sorting her clothes that fit and don't !!
Looking in from the door...
Still in the doorway but this is my change table which tbh I don't even use anymore!
Standing next to the change table, this is the floor space
In front of the wooden drawers shown above, more floor space which is currently taken up with a heater...
Cot by the door, there is a wardrobe at the end of the cot, next to the couch in the other pic and the drawers used to be in there but my P&T now livs in the wardrobe!

Should add that's a 2.5 seater couch so you get an idea of how wide the room is at it's widest point. About 2m and 4.2m long... *cries*

lol nzlisajo, everything going in Jaes room is removable, so its no problem to take it down and replace with something else should the lucky last baby be a boy...
Ohhh, I didnt even THINK of Bunnings!! I got mine from paper plus clearance store, they had hundreds in diff sizes at 1/2 price! Not sure if I posted the finished product on here, but just for you See if you can guess which princess each block resembles

Nic, the kids room right now is barely bigger than that, we've had to squeeze a set of bunks in there too, theres ony just enugh room to walk down the middle (its only 3 steps from the door to the other end but ykwim lol) I cant wait til this weekend when FIL moves out, we get his room, and Jae gets our old room!

That makes me feel a little better
Would be bigger minus the couch... But I like the couch lol plus it took ages to get through the door! Might move it though when she crawls so she has room to play!

Oh Lisa they are adorable! See I told you they were easy! (and I bet you had fun making them ). As for the princesses.... um cinderella, snow white and sleeping beauty maybe?? I'm not very clued up on my princesses just yet... I was more into lego and cars when I was a little girl lol

Ooh me too Lisa - lego, cars etc!
Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine... Beauty (Beauty and the Beast), Pocahontas, http://disney.go.com/princess/#/home/ - Disney Princesses
I am going to have a try at making Lily one of those name picture thingys at the weekend! They look so cool!
Also I have tidied her room today! Lol, pictures were so messy I had to!
I have moved the change table out to the bathroom and the drawers round to where the change table was and the heater has been moved too!
We didn't get to decorate the room before she was born so it's still the same from when I was a kid, but we plan to remove all the shelving and teddies and re wallpaper at some point too!

haha yep, blue one is cinderella (blue dress, yellow hair) yellow one is snow white (yellow skirt, red/blue top) and pink one is sleeping beauty (pink dress, yellow hair) going to do a little mermaid one, jasmine and one other to complete her name later on when I get the blocks/letters etc, but Jae works for now since thats what we call her anyways hehe
I bought a change table while preg to go beside the cot, but its stayed in the garage for over a year as theres just nowhere to put it! Will be going in her room though, I used B's right up until 15 months... so it will still get SOME use
nzlisajo, they were really easy! The hardest bit was painting the yellow letters... they are plain mdf, and when I put each coat on, it just came out a yellow grey, so I had to put it on thick, but it dried uneven, and the close-ups look horrid!

ooh have just seen this thread! I love nurseries/babies rooms. Sooo cute!!
My kids rooms have never been too fancy. I've been given a lot of furniture in the past, which helps a lot! MIL bought the change table brand new, but after 4 children it's getting worn. The drawers I was given, the cot I bought off my sister as she only used it once. The chair we were given after we got married and I love how retro it is and it's comfy. The wall stickers I just bought from Kmart for $10 for 2 sheets which I put one sheet up by the cot, and the other sheet up by the change table. The light shade I got on special from Lighting Plus for about $22!
I eventually will get an orgainzer (sp) curtain with a nice curtain rod to hang over the blind in like a bronze colour if I can find something like that.

Doorway looking in
Where the change table used to be is now a set of drawers with all her nappies and wipes on top
Looking down the room, some floor space, her heater and the feeding couch
Her tiny, tiny play area
And my little girl soundly sleeping while I was taking the pics!

Oooh yay I love nurseries!!! Our boys are in together coz our house isn't insulated, you can see light through the wooden floors and there are gaps when the windows are closed that you can put your fingers through lol we put the boys in the warmest room to conserve heat while we reno and turned the empty room into a playroom. I'll havta take some pics to post too.

Oh that would suck Kelly! We started Lily's at the start of Dec (bout 3 months before she came) but we had 3 guests so never got it painted/wall papered so it's still got all the shelves of teddies/dolls from when I was a kid. At least we got new carpet down though!

awww all the rooms are so lovely. we are currently renting so there is little I can do. the walls are white which is a start though, and I guess I could buy new curtains and just take them with us when we move. the plan is to start building in the spring- yep same time as baby comes lol.

LA, all the stickers on Jaes wall are vinyl, they just peel right off, and can stick back on again elsewhere, and I just used drawing pins (can fill the holes with toothpaste again afterwards to hide the pinhole ) to put the canvas ones on. We are renting too, with a view to buy in 5 years time... so for now we have SOME licence with the place, but nothing major!
I wanted to paint her walls cos it only has a VERY thin layer of off white paint over the gib walls, but didnt have the time to paint between FIL moving out, and switching rooms around...might do something about it once the house is owned by us (or the bank rather)
She got given a clock and some hanging pockets for her room to add to the disney princess-ness at her birthday party this weekend... so will be adding that to the room soon hehe

im also renting , im lucky tho because Amelias room is a lovely lilac colour that i love ( with one navy wall- my house was obviously painted when "feature walls" were the in thing , every room had a randomly painted wall lol ) i got Amelias name (my pics are on page 3) off a lady on trademe , it looks really cool and just peels off , the lady makes thm o order, iv also used those comand adhesive things for some butterflies i have stuck to her wall . so it looks quite cool but is really easy to remove with no marks

Yeah we have liberty to hang things on the walls as there are already so many holes there! I also like those stickers Lisa and will be using them if I can find some dragonfly ones. The curtains are a neutral colour so I could just deal, it wont be "perfect" but hey, I can only do the best I can do with what I have.
