I think Jackson may have a tummy bug. Apart from having the Chickenpox this will be his first illness. This morning he woke at 5am for his usual first morning feed and fed fine. He didnt go back to sleep straight away which he normally does. He eventually did.

Anyways, I went in to get him at 8am (usually he's awake by 7am) when I found baby vomit, which is odd for him cos he's never been a spilly baby. He wasn't interested in booby at 8.30am. I offered him some baby cereal, of which he had about 5 spoons and then started to vomit it back up so I stopped.

He is his usual and happy self, so do I assume he has an upset tummy or tummy bug? Do I offer him normal food or just booby and water?

TIA

We just had a tummy bug here too! I would keep offering food (refused at every meal), and upped the BF from 2/day to 5-6, plus lots of water.

So keep offering food, but don't despair if it's not eaten. Up the fluid intake, keep an eye out for signs of dehydration, and if food is still avoided in 3-4 days perhaps go see doc.

Thanks SM. Is there any food I need to avoid? Is dairy still ok like yoghurt etc?

mack was older when he was in and out of hospital with rotavirus and we had to switch him off normal formula to lactose free so we avoided cheese, yogurt, anything with milk etc... id keep BFing cos thats best and offer extra fluids but avoid dairy products when you do normal meals and not worry about food being refused :) i hope it passes quickly for you. as far a watching for dehydration, keep an eye out for the normal wet nappies etc but also mouth not drooling if thats normal, no tears when he is crying etc..

We didn't avoid anything, but DD is a bit older, and we knew she had no issues with any foods. Personally, I would just keep offering the same foods.

ETA - although, maybe avoid things like cabbage - that smell on top of the runs would be NASTY!

Thank Mon. I didnt know about the lack of dribbling and tears. Good to know, thanks.

SM thankfully we havent had that end problem yet and Im hoping it stays that way. Will definitely refrain from giving cabbage though

So after saying Jackson didnt have the diarrhea it seems I spoke too soon. Today will be day 2. I am going to give him some rehydration formula cos he's not eating and is drinking very little, including booby.

He is generally his usual happy self with the odd bit of grumping. How long do I leave it before I need to take him to the Dr?

I would see how he is tomorrow and if he hasn't improved then make an appointment. Poor little Jackson :(
