Yay favourite day of the year NOT!!

What are you getting your mothers. My mum expects a present and I hate it. Last year I made fude the year before that cupcakes. the year before that a table runner.
Dh 's is good she doesn't mind a card and some choccies.
My mum has asked for satin pj's and some books. So thats like $50 plus a card and DH's mum.

Any cheaper idea's. I know she's my mum and all. But this year we are having issue's (me and mum) so I really don't feel like it.

aww hugs Sarah (just cos it sounds like you need it). I don't have anything for my Mum yet and won't even see her on the day which is unusual as normally we all do church and a big family lunch cos that's what makes her most happy. We got DH's Mum a couple of those chamilia beads (a mum one and a gran one) as she has a bracelet and needed a couple of beads to finish it off. DH got me a dvd to watch with Alex and I think that's what I am going to do for him this year to cos it sounds like a great idea to get kid's/family movies.

I always cooked dinner for my mum having the night off was something she liked. I'm making roast for lunch on Sunday for DH's mum.
Maybe getting your mum something nice might help to soothe the troubles between you.
Pjs and books is alot - why don't you get just one of them.  I don't get spending lots of money on mothers day, its not a birthday - a nice card and a good book is enough surely?

I'm not really in touch with my mum atm either chick. I'll be stopping in tomorrow when we're in town with a card Jake made and to let her see the boys and thats it. I personally would think it was abit rude if she gave me a list of stuff she wanted tbh. I don't mind for a birthday but mothers day? C'mon...
Anyway thats my 2c worth

Sarah do what you have done in the past if you are doing anything at all. I say bake or make.
When I was a kid we made a card & tried to be good that day, lol. I am lucky MIL thinks the same & I always get DH to call his mummy, lol, she is o/s this year so he doesn't have to.

I don't get the demanding stuff for a present after all it is not a birthday. It a day to spend time with that person if you can & not spend heaps of $$.

hmmm my mum will be lucky if she gets anything this year only cause ill have to try get to town.... dont you just love comercial holidays not! personally i feel a card and a nice photo or some small gesture like baking is enough i certainly woulnt be buying both pjs and books, one or the other maybe. I agree with Jazzy its not a birthday.

I got my mum one of those snapfish magic mugs and made her a card. She lives 5hrs away and knows we don't have much money.

Other years I have just sent her a card and a lotto ticket or scratchie.

When we were kids we made breakfast in bed (mmm cornflakes and instant coffee! lol) and now my Mum gets a card and a phonecall or if we happen to be in the same city I'd take her out for breakfast or have her at our place for a meal.

I just ordered the photobook and magic mug off snapfish for mine, so I didn't spend heaps just the postage but that options out now...

Maybe just get a photo album from TWH or somewhere like that and print a bunch of photo's off of the kids? 6x4 are like what... 20c a pic? Maybe less?

I love snapfish for personal gifts, Im lucky my mum doesn't expect anything, she has always just wanted homemade cards (which she has kept since we were littlies). But she is easy to buy for, always happy with a $20 voucher. She told me not to bother as Im the mummy now. But we have a hand cast of Keira (home made job with a few finger tips missing haha) but she will love it.

Only thing I want is to go to willowbank, a nice family day for me. Im waiting for keira to make me her own special presents

mothers day and xmas is the best time to give updated family pics or pics of the kids etc and briscoes is bound to have frames on 50% off

I suppose i can consider myself lucky that my mother didnt feature in my life since she walked when i was a baby......gotta find some upsides to these things
And MIL is away overseas at the moment, even though ive still printed off an updated pic of the boys to put on a photoblock or something

We make gifts for fathers and mothers day with DD (if Kindy doesn't do it for us ), and go on a special family outing. Except it's unlikley we'll get the outing this year, DH is @ the Early Childhood conf.

I've recently started making a real effort for my mother, we had a rocky time in my teenage years but she has put an incredible amount of effort into working on both herself and on our relationship, she's amazing with DD & I really want to acklowedge how much I appreciate it all especially as its coming up 10yrs since my Nana, her mother, died. So this year it'll be a card & a garden ornament, and I'll take DD over on Sunday for lunch with my stepfathers family.

Sarabetha, do you have some paints at home? Your mum probably feels the tension too, so how about going to the warehouse and picking up a canvas for the kids to paint? She'll probably figure while it's not directly from you as such it may be more genuine if that makes sense?

I've always got my mum something nice - its the least I can do for her after all the crap she's put up with over the years! This year she wanted a garden tool and some jammies, so that's what she got :D Cost me $50. MIL gets a card from Thomas and that's it. I dont think i'll get anything, I dont think DH will even remember!

I bought her a mug. LOL Exciting I know. It's purple.
I'm one of 5 children so it's not like she's not getting anything truely exciting.

Flake. LOL to the painting idea, SHe's a painter and I'm a painter and my little sister is a painter. WIll be interesting to see if she can find a sapce for yet ANOTHER canvas.

All I want for mothers day is a homemade card. To me that is what it's all about, your kids putting together something & spending the time doing something for you. Breakfast in bed would be nice, even a coffee in bed would be nice

This year it's my Mum's 60th birthday so we usually do combined presents, which must suck for her, so I do vary & give two smaller ones. This year the money sucks but I am making & decorating her birthday cake. Dad wanted to pay someone to do it but it's my present to her. We are all going to be up at the chateau so breakfast in bed is out but at least we get served breakfast

I hate over commercialised holidays, reason we never give gifts on valentines day either, we only need to give the gift of love

I've got my Mum a stainless steel coffee plunger, the Topp Twins 'untouchable girls' DVD and a little wall hanging that says 'All that I am and all that I plan to be I owe to you'.

For my MIL I got the same coffee plunger and a wall hanging that says 'God couldn't be everywhere so he created Mothers'.
