Chickoin I love the pants so great for her lounge around in.

Oh those soft shoes are sooo cute. Once I finally get Cooper sleeping better during the day I might attempt a pair of those. Failing that, I'll email it to my Mum to do for me

Those soft shoes ARE cute! So going to make some of them as soon as I can find some sort of leathery stuff for the bottom.

You can use felt instead of suede.

I do have some felt. That would be really slippery though aye? We have mostly tiled floors.

I'm with you girls - I love making stuff and have all my fabric and sewing machines out at the moment. I just went to the spotlight knitting sale today and bought some merino wool to make some little hats and booties .

For the shoe soles you can buy "slipper gripper" stuff off the internet (if anyone knows where to find it in NZ I want to know!) or make it yourself with puff paint on the fabric. Otherwise buy the non-slip shelf liner fabric and sew a layer of that over whatever you want to use to make the soles. You can also buy cheap leather offcuts on trademe by the bagful(I'm not allowed to buy any more according to DH - oops) and use the "suede" side as the sole.

Here is a site with a bunch of patterns for baby slings http://www.thebabywearer.com/lists/Sewing.htm - baby wearer DIY
http://www.threadbanger.com/ - Threadbanger do all sorts of cool DIY stuff and occasionally kids stuff (or you could adapt some of their other ideas).
Someone in another site listed http://madebyjoel.blogspot.com/ - this cool link to a craft blog which I am now addicted to checking on a regular basis.
There are some cool free patterns on the http://www.ottobredesign.com/en/print/index.html - Ottobre magazine site as well.

I have plenty more links saved but these are my favourites

I made those shoes with some thick pvc type stuff on the sole, they worked out really well and were quite easy. I also read (possibly on that pattern/link) to go to the op shop and get a cheap leather handbag, which is rather clever, especially because our local op shop has these on sale for $1. Bargain.
The puff paint is also genious, and it could look really funky.
Off to check out the new links.... this can get addictive!

I made the shoes yesterday. Well actually made 2 pairs as the first pair were too small (but will be good for baby #2( as I had to guess at the size and draw my own pattern as our printer is broken. But they are soo cute, can't wait to get into town on the weekend to visit fabric stores for some different fabric

Thanks your shoes look awesome, when I get some fabric that aren't scraps I'll put some finishing touches on.

I made the quilt when I was pregnant. It is great for in the car, on the floor etc and it makes the cot look pretty. Esme loves the ragged edges.

Chickoin, did you make the pattern bigger for Jody? The   pattern says 6-9 months, but I would love to make them bigger for DD.

Posted By: Chickoin
Date Posted: 04 May 2010 at 12:34pm
Yes, I added about 1.5cm to make the soles longer (but not wider) and about 1cm to the back strap. I measured Jody from tip toe to back of heel and added a bit for hem allowance.
If I had to make them any bigger I would have made the top piece longer (between toe and ankle).

Esmesmum, for the decorations I used those tiny ribbon thing you get inside shirt and skirts (you know, the ones you don't cut off for a while and they keep sticking out, or get caught in your skirt zip?). I keep crazy things.

I made http://www.sewing.org/html/toddlertouchyworm.html - this snake last night for a first birthday present. The joiners I used were ribbon ties, velcro, snaps, and buttons. SO easy, just whipped up out of fabric scraps, and filled with an old pillow that I pulled apart!

Nooo another enabler - I'm really meant to be sewing not finding more and more things I want to make. Lol - I love the baby pants pattern and the hooded towel on this site http://www.make-baby-stuff.com/baby-clothes-patterns.html - Free baby clothes patterns . At this rate I'm going to need to be pg for a year to make all the stuff I have convinced myself I need..... I have some half cut out nappies from this http://www.jalie.com/jalie2907-cloth-diaper-sewing-pattern.html - Jalie Nappy Pattern (not free sorry team - and only available to NZ over internet as no-one is importing them so far) that I have modified for snaps that I am "supposed" to be sewing this weekend. Now I want to go buy more fabric to make a http://sewcando.blogspot.com/2009/08/moses-basket-redo-bedding-tutorial.html - Moses Basket liner which I was directed to by http://www.makeforbaby.com/ - make for baby directory site.

I would sew the ears on flat as it would be a PITA to clean up with the ears flopping around, It's very cute though!

Hunters Mama I found that the hardest part to do as it's the narrowest part of the sole. I had to go super slowly to get around there. I also found that thicker fabrics were hardest. Thin cotton worked the best and I used flannel to line for warmth.

Anyone know where I can find a pattern for a simple A-line pinafore...??

-------------

Posted By: SquishysMum
Date Posted: 11 May 2010 at 2:45pm
I have made several of these http://www.pickles.no/two-in-one-dress/ - reversible dresses , but it shows well how to trace a pattern from an existing dress. A-line dresses are so easy to make patterns for! I used snaps for the shoulders, but you can adjust it easily with ties or buttons.

This is what mine turned out like, size 9-12 months-ish.

Yay the itty bitty dress!

I find spotlights Quilting fabric section the BEST place for all the custie fabric :D I'm a quilter anyway and i usually go to my local quilt shop. Sure you dont get as much fabric for your buck, but at least you know it's a decent cotton and it doesnt need to be washed first!

I am determined to get my machines out (well they are already out) today & finish a top that I'm making, got as far as cutting it out & pinning half together.

I want to sew up my merino that I used for wraps into some form of bag that C will keep on while he's asleep Not sure if I'll use a pattern or go off the top of my head with an idea LOL Althought am thinking I might use the part of the pattern from the dress on the previous page.
