DS is sick, Dr said it's croup.
He's on steroids, and pamol.
I know its a common child illness but what I forgot to ask is. . . .
What are the chances DH and I will get it? (or is it just a kid thing?)
How long do I expect it to last?

ETA -
And one other question. Can I pass it on?
(Like if I leave DS at home and go visiting other babies, am I likely to pass it on)

My DH got croup heaps as a kid, and still does every now and then. The best thing he found is sitting in the cold air - when he got it as a baby and was in hospital, they would open the window in the ward and sit by it with him until they were freezing. It helped him breathe. He does the same thing now if he gets an attack. I think it's caused by a virus, it's not contagious as far as I'm aware (I've never got it from him!!).

Hope it doesn't hang around too long.

My neice had it when we were there for her first birthday, and their doc said it was contagious but Cody never got it and they were sharing toys e.t.c as babies do.

yeah it can be spread i think.. I kept my little guy home away from others when he got it twice and he got it from school so guess it must be contagious? he was lucky it only took the steriods once both times to help with it.. hugs cause it's awful:(

I am pretty sure it's just a kid thing?Ethan's really bad stuff lasted a few days but a cough for a week or two both times

My 12 yr old used to get croup chronic as a kid but grew out of it about 10 - 11 yrs old. Adults don't usually get it.

My DS had croup last month. Only one really bad night with it but it did develop into a nasty chest infection. Hopefully the AB will keep that away (although will have no effect if it is viral). We didn't need the steriods.

Hope your DS is better soon!

Croup isn't contagious i don't think, but the virus that can cause croup is, if that makes sense :)

Croup as your doctor probably told you is a viral infection of the larnyx. It is contagious but you should have built up an immunity to it through your childhood. Both my 3yr old and 18mth old have had croup mulitple times in the last year and my husband and I have never contracted it.
