So, I have heard of night terrors, but is there such a thing as day terrors?
For 3-4 days DD (9months) has been waking form her afternoon nap absolutely beside herself. She has a morning nap and avo one, and it has only happen after the afternoon one and once during the night (she usually NEVER wakes during the night). she simply screams, and regardless of who is holding her, what we do with her (walk round, bounce her, sway her) offer bottle/food....she just screams. This goes for 10-20 minutes. She is so hysterical, I have never seen anything like it. For anyone that knows DD, she is so happy and cruisy, barely cries at all. So to see her like this is a real shock. She is eating and drinking normal. Everything is fine with her, its just the hysterical sreaming when waking form that avo nap. Any reason I should be concerned? It has just come out of no where and seems to odd to be happening at the same time each day. |

Interesting that you post this as my DS has just started something similar at 11 months. I wondered if it was nightmares too.
He has started to wake within the first 3-4 hours of going to bed at night & crying a lot, nothing really consoles him. I've tried the dummy, pamol, patting, stroking, in bed with us, but nothing really works. After a while of trying all these we just have to put him back down in the cot & he'll cry for a couple of minutes & then he's fine and falls asleep again til morning. Very strange. My DS is also a very easy, happy baby so it's very unusual for him. They certainly keep us on our toes dont they? Sounds like it could be night terrors as it usually happens at the beginning of a sleep, so no reason why it wouldn't happen during a nap. Here's some info from good ol' wikipedia.
A typical night terror episode usually occurs in the first hour of sleep. The subject sits up in bed and screams and appears awake but is confused, disoriented, and unresponsive to stimuli. Although the person seems to be awake, they do not seem to be aware of any surrounding presence and usually do not talk. The person may thrash around in bed and does not respond to comforting by others. A person's heart rate can escalate during the terror, along with sweating and harsh breathing.[1] Most episodes last only a few minutes, but they may last up to half an hour before the person relaxes and returns to normal sleep. In some cases the night terror could be recalled by the person, depending on age and the nature of the episode. Though there are a multitude of triggers, emotional stress during the previous day and a high fever are thought to precipitate most episodes. Ensuring the right amount of sleep is an important factor. thanks guys.
The info form wiki made a lot of sense. For a month or so, her bowel movements have been a lot softer than they use to be (  ). So it could be some sort of constipation issue.
I have also been under a lot stress lately, so I wonder if that is refelcted in her. Well, we have a dr. appt tomorrow, so I 'll let you know how we go. It didn't happen today though, but will be reassuring to check she is all good. |
