Until a couple of days ago C has been (mostly) perfect, going down for most of his naps with minimal fuss and being generally happy and fun to be around.

Anyway recently he has been feeling a bit warm (he's currently in a short sleeved bodysuit and nothing else) and spending most of the day screaming. Since 10 this morning he has had 1.5 hours sleep total, and the rest of the time he has been feeding or crying. We try to put him down and he won't have a bar of it. Wrapped, unwrapped, lots of blankets or just a muslin wrap he won't sleep.
The poo he did a few minutes ago while he was being changed looked a bit watery towards the end too.

Should I take him to the doctor's tomorrow or just ride it out and offer lots of milk and cuddles?

Does he have a temp? I wouldnt be too concerned about one watery-ish poo, but keep an eye on them and if they keep up make sure you offer milk after each poo and take him to the Dr

Or could be he has just "woken" up...

Jake "woke" up at about 5 weeks and we had 3 weeks of him averaging about 7 hours sleep per 24 hours.. it was hideous!

All of a sudden they notice the world and it can be a very exciting but over stimulating place...

I would say just get him to sleep however you can, if that means cuddling him so be it...

He is due a growth spurt around now too

He does seem a bit warm, hard to tell how warm without a working thermometer though.

He was laughing at an air con unit last week so I think he's already "awake".

He's bfing properly at the moment which is rare so he must really be thirsty.

One handed typing, such fun

I agree it's a growth spurt around this time.

But if he gets a temp, is really hard to settle and screams non stop do take him to the doc's or ring health line 0800 611 116 for advice or plunket line 0800933 922. They are both great services. Not to scare you but babies go down hill really fast.

He could just be over tired.
Try a deep warm bath to relax him.
Put him in the pram amd wheel him up and down hall way or around lounge or over join in carpet.
Do you have a sling or moby wrap?
If not use a strong sheet and make a sling wear him close so he can smell you and hear your heart beat.
cuddle him to sleep, leave a piece of your clothing in his cot so he can smell your scent.
I used to tuck a top at the end of the cot so it was away from his face e.t.c but my smell was around him.
do you have a swing or bouncer? put him in that and rock him.
Or put him in his car seat/capsule and put a mussie or light cloth over it and rock him to sleep.
A plunket nurse told me about this it worked a treat with DS1 who would scream all the time!
Once he's asleep in the capsule transfer him to the cot.

good luck hope the tips help!

i agree with melnel.. Liam only sleeps 2-3 hours during the day (in total) but he is good at night but for a week or so he just wouldn't 1!! you need a thermometer!! and Liam has watery poo a bit as well..

Pop down to the supermarket and get a thermometer, also if you have a look on the back on the plunket book it has a list of things to look out for if bubs is sick. Most importantly you know bubs best so if you think something isn't quite right then get it checked out!

That's what I did with Lily when I noticed she was a bit 'off'.

But like Mel said it may be that he is suddenly more interested in his surroundings! Lily has really "woken up" over the last couple of weeks, so where you are now and she likes to stay up longer during the day looking at EVERYTHING including the curtains and the top of the curtains where the light comes through lol

If he's bf-ing good then thats good, the poos - keep watching them and if he feels much 'hotter' than usual then def get it checked out!

Sounds like around the time our day sleeps went a bit funny too. I think that was when we got our white noise CD and that helped to settle him.   So if his temp is ok, it might be worth getting one of those (I got mine for about $7 from the warehouse).

With the wrapping thing, if he's overtired he's probably more likely to resist being wrapped, but persist if you can as after a few minutes he'll probably calm down and sleep better as I found when Cooper was overtired he's more likely to try and get out of the swaddle but he'll sleep longer with it as when they're overtired they startle even more easily and wake up (...so get more tired...). Also, check out the sleepstore website as they've got some good articles on there for helping with sleep.

Oh yeah I wrap Lily when over tired other wise her jerky arm movements wake her!! You could also try a feed after wrapping to calm him? That works with Lily

The hospital told us that slightly watery poo was ok , but not if it was green - and yes to a thermometer
Also - if baby seems extra thirsty - make sure its coming out the other end with lots of wet naps to match
