We have just brought a new seat for DD and need to get a tether bolt installed.
DP works on cars modifying them etc and his brother is a mechanic. Can they put it in or will we have to find a certified installer? I can't find any info and the safe 2 go lady at the shop was a bit vauge in who could get them done.

We just did it ourselves. Our cars & even Ute have already got holes drilled. This was on vehicles 16 years old so you might already have a bolt hole somewhere?

Our car is 10 years old and had no tether hole but DH just put it inusing the cordless drill.
I'm surprised the safe2go lady didn't give you a definitive answer - they're normally pretty clear.

I'll have to have a look for a hole.
I was too she said you might be able to put it in the parcel tray (It's a sedan) she gave me a workshop to go too but didn't really say if I could take it anywhere else.
DP will just do it I think there are clear instructions on how to do it so should be able to sus it out.
Thanks

Hi
I got given a phone number of a guy who does it when I bought the seat (from Kiwibaby in Mt Roskill), he came to the house, which was brilliant.
Our car was a bit tricky as the speakers are placed right where you would put the anchor point. So after a bit of hmmming and arrhhing he had to glue the centre seat bit that opens out (don't even know what that's for - an arm rest??) shut and put the anchor point in the middle of the parcel tray.
It was a bit annoying while she was rear facing as I had to climb in to the car to lift her over the tether strap but was fine once we turned the seat round.

I have a question regarding tether straps. Do ALL cars have to have them with carseats in them or what? I went into Babycity the other day as I was explaining that our straps for seatbelts are a bit too short for the carseat and she said that we need a teather bolt in the car.. now all this has changed since I had my daughter 5 yrs ago.

Hi Renee and Lauren it is my understanding that if you buy a carseat with a tether strap you have to use it which will mean that you need a tether bolt. This has to be used in conjunction with a seatbelt or latch system though
What sort of carseat are you talking about?
This website might be able to help http://www.childrestraints.co.nz/ - linky
We have sorted out tether bolt issues, we did it ourselves at BIL workshop and got him to check it. A different safe to go lady checked it today and it is all good

Hi there -
We have a safe and sound carseat - I think it is a Royal one.. but I can't remember as it is 5 yrs ago. We have it rear facing for Jayden but the seat belts are soo tight but I might see if I can get a plunket person to view if we have it in the car correctly and if we actually do need a new one...I want to get a new one..lol

Could you please give us the number of that guy? I really need to get one fitted in my car. TIA

If you're in Auckland there are frequently free evenings in association with Plunket where you can turn up at a specified park/reserve and there are professionals there that do it on the spot for no charge.
That's how we got ours done. Although then we bought a Brio that doesn't need a tether bold anyway.
Maybe ring your local plunket and see if they know of any coming up. They're often listed in the community newspapers.

The link I put in above has a list of places to go and get it done in Auckland. Baby on the move should also be able to let you know where to go :)
