Does anyone know if its safe to give peppermint tea (cooled) to a 1 year old? I googled it, and it is apparently safe for all people, children and even animals, but I couldn't find anything specific for very young children. Can anyone help?

Why would you want to?
As far as I'm aware you shouldn't give tea to drink as it contains substances which stop iron from being absorbed.

I don't think herbal tea has Tannin (sp?) in it which stops the iron absorbtion, I believe it is just the earl grey type teas that contain it.
I would think it would be fine. Doesn't it help with upset tummies?

Yep that is my understanding too, although tannins only hinder iron absorbtion, thankfully And no, most peppermint teas don't contain tannins. I think it'll be absolutely fine Whitewave, hope your wee man is ok!

Peppermint tea should be fine - it will need to be weak though. My girl drinks my herbal tea (I drink a spiced african tea) which is fine - in fact it has lots of good trace minerals in it. Just be sure it's good quality tea, or even better make your own.

Thanks guys, I tried him with a small amount tonight, but he threw his sippy cup away! Don't think he liked the taste!
The thought was that it might help his digestion, he gets tummy upsets easily, and I've been giving him Rhuger mixture on and off since he was about 5 months (for bad wind and mild reflux). But the Rhuger is expensive, and supposed to be for babies under a year old, so will probably lose its effectiveness anyway. So if the peppermint tea was a goer, it might have helped with that.
Never mind, I'll have to come up with something else!

Since he's over 1 could you mix in a spoon of honey? I like drinking hippie tea but I don't like the taste of most of them so I mix in a spoon of honey and it makes them much more palatable.
