Would anyone be interested in joining a weight watchers thread where we can share tips, and ask what certain foods points are and recipes etc?? and we can share how many points we have used in a day and wat we ate so others can get an idea on how others are using their points??   and we can have weekly weigh ins? I know a few people are doing weight watchers points system on here so thought we could band together to help support each other?? (this is not to take over the weight loss thread, this is in addition )

I cant afford to do the actual weight watchers as my parent leave has just run out, but am keen to start doing the points etc. I have a few books that i will be going off

Just jump on here if your interested and we can start a list etc........altho im not good at flash lists

I have a section in my blog for weight watchers stuff.. because that's what I'm following at the moment to lose weight. I also record all my daily food intake along with ww points so you can have an idea from that as well.

Blog link http://www.fatmum.co.nz - here

That sounds like a great idea.

im also going to start following points again, i wont be going to meetings either because id rather pay for the gym.

I think with everyone writing what they eat it'll be great for others to get food ideas.

When are you planning on starting?? I might start fresh on Monday

Haha I would be keen too Lou, we don't have WW here in town so would be good to have a 'check' every week where I have to admit to my weight hahahahaha. sigh do i really want to own up to it?
I did JCs just before I got pregnant and lost heaps and would love to do that again but don't think the frozen meals would last the three hour drive hehe.

Hi guys. I would be keen too. The weight just isnt coming off this time. I have joined the gym at uni because it only cost $100 for the year since im a student. But could really do with some accountability food and exercise wise. A weekly weigh in would be great (if not very scary lol)

Well if any of you want to join the http://www.fatmum.co.nz/fmc - FMC you are most welcome to.. We're all Ohbaby mums there (from the new weight loss thread), and you'll get your own page where your stats and photo can be updated (some of us aren't brave enough to have our heads in the photo lol)..

*puts hand up*

I'm following WW too, altho like the rest of you, not going to meetings as I can't seem to fit it into my day with everything else I have to do!

I have a bit of a history with WW - before I had Maya, I lost 30kg following it, then after I had her, I put it back on. Then lost 30kg again between her first birthday and when I got preg with the gremlins 2 years later.

Two years and three babies later and I'd put it all back on again, and then crept up and up last year until I reached an all time high . So I officially started the WW again on 1st Jan 2010 and...

So far I've lost 19.1kg! . My first mini-goal was to lose 20kg by Easter, so if I can get that last 900g off this week, I will have made it. I've been going to the gym, and am now up to running 2km at a stretch on the treadmill which is a huge improvement from when I started 3 months ago.

My next goal is another 20kg by Labour Weekend, which is about 6 months, coz I know that the more I lose, the slower it will come off.

I was gonna join the FMC, but never got around to it, but I do post lots of updates on my FB page.

Great stuff Emma!!! I hope you make the 900gms........

I need a starting point....Sabrina mentioned Monday, that will give us all a chance (you excluded emma since youve already doing it) to get our heads around it and ask advise on points for commonly eaten foods in our days and get a diary or notebook assigned for writing our food diaries etc.....Im gonna look for an up to date points book on trade me (Nat ebay will have heaps, thats where i got my current books)

The way i kinda like to do it is in the morning or the night before i "plan" what im going to eat....I pretty much eat the same things for breakfast and lunch etc and its kinda nice to plan a day ahead so you can see if theres room for a treat in there for the end or during the day........if you go blindly you find that by the end of the day your way over, but if youve allowed a couple of points already for a treat you can hold out for that treat.

And we can make Weigh Ins every Monday..........so if everyone who is gonna join in want to do a starting weight thats cool but you dont have to, you can just advise the weight loss each monday weigh in..........oh and i would advise doing measurements once a fortnight............Im doing fortnightly and taking pics fortnightly. Just in the first fortnight i can see a difference in my waist in the pics and in measurements

Fatmum, I will go and have a nosey at your blog again........looked a while back.

The other thing we could consider if anyones interested in doing pics, we can put them in the OB addicts site and start a discussion topic there so only OB users can see and not the rest of the world???

Nat if i start a list will you make it pretty? I have NOOOO idea with that stuff

Monday is great for me - if I make by 20kg by weigh-in on Friday, Monday will pretty much be the start of a whole new phase .

I meal plan a lot, I find I eat a lot healthier if I plan ahead. I'm not terribly well behaved with my eating - for example, if I'm short on time in the morning, I grab a 5-point cookie for breakfast on the go. Same Points value as my usual weetbix and banana, but nowhere near as nutritionally sound. And if the kids are having mince or sausages or something fairly high in points for dinner, I'll skip it and have poached eggs on toast with mushroom, or a wrap with ham and salad, which is healthy enough, but I don't eat anywhere near enough red meat.

I love, love, love the gym tho. Some people think that's weird, but it's mental processing time for me, and I can push myself harder and harder which is really satisfying. Plus, the OCD side of my personality really digs all the stats - times, speeds, resistances, distances...

That sounds exactly like me with the gym.......I always focussed on the LCD when running and i would push myself to the time, then when i reached say 5mins, i would then push myself to the next KM then when i got there my calories might be almost at 100 so i will push myself to that........kept doing that over and over and before i knew it had run 6kms!! and its definetly down time away from kids where you can just be you and NO ONE saying "mum mum mum mum".........I will join again when my baby is about 1yrs old.......happy doing my WII personal training and boxing, walking and swimming at the moment.......Im excellent with the exercise motivation but really not very good with the eating motivation.........I either dont eat even close to enough in a day or way too much chocolate

I will come join you guys after Easter is over. A friend and I have been doing this together since January and I have lost nearly 10 kgs but now seem to have lost all motivation (might be having a baby that doesn't sleep!). I need to be held accountable and inspired to get some exercise
I can't afford to go to WW either, but used to work there years ago and lost 55kgs in my 20's. Shame I found all that weight again, plus some
Emma - you rock! Well done!

freckle I did the core plan just after I had DD and I lost sh*te loads of weight on it! You really need to be in tune with your full signals though. Eating slowly helps alot!

I would like to join in here too please! I need to loose about 8kgs to get down to my wedding day weight which is my goal!

I will start on Monday as I am going away to the Beach Hop this weekend and will have a few rums just cause I can

are you doing the coreplan this time peachy? I may try it cos I think it would be ideal on a gluten free diet I reckon cos most the things I'm eating are on the core plan anyway... then I can have a few wines and an easter egg with my 21 extra points hehe

I haven't decided yet actually. I also gave gluten free a go last week and I felt so tired. Is that normal? I was doing heaps of physical work in the back yard though, so I guess that wouldn't have helped. I just felt like eating a whole loaf of bread! I did loose nearly 3kgs though doing gluten free for just one week

I was thinking of combining the points program and gluten free perhaps.......

I cannot believe how gluten is in almost every single thing we eat!

I will jump in here.

I have been doing WW since last May and have lost a total of 11.4 kgs. I only ever have had small loses but at least it is coming off. I have only got another 1.5 kgs to go to get to my goal weight. I have been trying to lose the last 2 kgs for a couple pf months and have had lots of losses and gains; they always say the last 2 kgs are the hardest as your body gets so used to it. All up I would like to lose a total of 16 kilos.

I found some old WW books and a points book that I had a few years ago. Not sure if I will do points or the core plan though? Might have a look through and see what the difference is.

What is the core plan?? Ive never done weight watches or know anything about it. Could someone please explain to me how it all works.

I just know i want to lose 10kgs. Currently 65.1kgs according to the gym scales

The first 15kgs have come off easy - without me doing anything. But i think this next 10kgs is going to be hard as i am now at my pre children weight. no more has come off in the last month.

Could someone add my details into the list?

Posted By: LouD
Date Posted: 26 March 2010 at 11:24am
Kyla - weight watchers is where you get a book that tells you how many points each item of food is. you then get allocated a set amount of points per day....based on certain criteria which i can PM you later on today when i get a minute......so you then stick to eating that many "points" per day,..........you may have seen maccas doing point meals??

If anyone who wants to do the weekly weigh ins but not the WW thats cool, what ever works for you.

For those who do want to do WW you will need a points book. Ask around someone is bound to have one they arent using anymore and you will need to know how many points you are allowed in which i can PM you also.......just send me a PM and I will reply with details etc

Gotta run, need a shower while my lil man asleep before i head out for the day or headless chicken running (typical day here)

Posted By: freckle
Date Posted: 26 March 2010 at 11:26am
core plan is when you eat mainly whole foods and you 21 points a week for extras... there is no limits on most the whole foods but you have to listen to hunger signals and stop when full... I'll go dig out my books cos there is restrictions on some things like eggs

Ive found some more books showing how to figure out your points etc so if anyone wants some more info PM me. It also says that for breastfeeding mums you add an extra 7 points a day.

Think ill try the core plan this time. I have done the points plan and got to my goal but I am a bit of a chocoholic and would often use up all my points on naughty things and have to have 0 point food for tea! Naughty naughty

Hi Ladies

I'm not a Mum, just a proud Aunty of 3 (4 by the end of this year!), and sometimes lurk (with the permission of my sis, who is an OB regular!).

Just thought I'd offer that I've been on WW Online for a while now so can easily look up the details for things.

For those talking about core, yes they are still doing it, but it's called simply filling now, where you just eat the so-called "Filling Foods" with a certain number of extras per week (and listen to your full signals). I think this varies from 14 to 35 extra points a week depending on how much you weigh, how much general activity you have during the day, whether you're male or female and if you're breastfeeding or not. I think the 35 is once you're on weight maintenance instead of loss.

The satisfaction plan is just the points plan by another name - basically just concentrates on eating the right kinds of foods to stay more satisfied.

Does anyone want me to post a copy of the points quiz (so you know how many points a day you're on) or anything like that?

And if you'd rather a non-Mum just butted out feel free to tell me to go away :-)

No don't butt out Lurker ... I had thought about doing ww online but it was the weigh ins that really kept me ontrack last time so didn't know if online would be best enough motivation for me or not... how do you find it?
That's interesting about the core plan changes... it use to me everyone got 21 extra points... plus excecise points...How do you work out your extra points now? are the restrictions for eggs, cereals and breads still the same?

Thanks!!!

Hi,

I think i want to join in here. I have 10kg to loose.
I have the WW points book, but do not know how many points i am allowed. Can anyone shed some light on where to find this info?

ETA: I found this online:

WW points

1. Are you
female = 2 points
Male = 8 points
A nursing mom = 12 points

2. How old are you?
17-26 = 4 points
27-37 = 3 points
38-47 = 2 points
48-58 = 1 point
over 58 = 0 points

3.What do you weigh?

Enter the first two digits of your weight in pounds.
(for example, if you weight 199, you will add 19 to your score)

4. How tall are you?
Under 5'1 = 0 points
5'1 - 5’10 = 1 point
Over 5’10 = 2 points

5. How do you spend most of your day?
Sitting down = 0 points
Occasionally sitting = 2 points
Walking most of the time = 4 points
Doing physically hard work most of the time = 6 points

Now add them all together and that’s your daily total.

Plus you are allowed 35 points per week that are "free" and you can choose to use them or not.....

exercise = negative points basically for every 100 calories burned you get 1 extra point to use...

According to the new system the points quiz is:

Points quiz for WW

female - 7
breastfeeding - 14
male - 14

How old are you:
16-20 - 5
21-35 - 4
36-50 - 3
51-65 - 2
over 65 - 1

How much do you weigh:
If 2 digits use the first digit
If 3 digits use the first 2 digits

How tall are you:
Under 160cm - 1
160cm or over - 2

How active are you most days:
Sitting most of the time - 0
Occasionally sitting, mainly standing - 2
Occasionally standing - mainly walking - 4
Doing physically active work most of the time - 6

I'm following points instead of the simply filling/core system at the moment but considering switching over. I've been following WW for about a year and have lost about 18 kg. Well actually I lost just over 20kg and got to goal in November but put on a few over Christmas so I'm back off maintenance again
Will do a bit of research on the core/simply filling thing and get back to you!

Another thing that I've found really useful:

For anything that you have the nutritional information for, the calculation for the number of points is:

Points = Kilojoules/293 + Saturated Fat/4

So you take the number of kJ, divide it by 293, and then take the amount of saturated fat in grams and divide by 4 and add those two together.

If you know this you can work out anything off the back of a packet with just a normal calculator (in the supermarket I just go with kj/300 instead of 293 for an easier mental calculation) and then all you need is the points for fresh stuff like fruit and meat. I'm a massive geek so I've made up an excel spreadsheet with the calculations in it - if you want it let me know.

freckle - PM me your email address and I'll send you my spreadsheet.

Those asking about Core (bear with me, yet another long post sorry!):

Potato is limited to one meal per day

Grainy bread Restricted to 2 sandwich slices per day (at meal), or equivalent small/ medium roll; or 2 sandwich-sized crispbread per day

Breakfast cereal limited to 1 meal per day and must be eaten with skim milk, no-fat or low-fat natural yoghurt

No more than 7 eggs per week

Pasta is limited to one meal per day.

Rice is limited to one meal per day.

Pouring oil limited to two teaspoons per day.
Any more comes from weekly POINTS allowance (21 for everyone trying to lose weight, 35 if you're on maintenance - possibly slightly more for guys but not sure on that one).

Snacks on Core
Ĩ fruit
Ĩ vegetables
Ĩ diet/skim yoghurt
Ĩ vegetable soup
Ĩ skim milk
Ĩ air-popped corn
Ĩ WW Fruities
Anything else for snacks must be pointed, even if ¡§Core¡¨ at mealtime.

you *can* use exercise points, but most Corers don't as their hunger signals will lead them to eat more quantity of Core foods which is already 'free'

Information gained from asking Questions on the WW online message boards. So helpful!

Hi lurker, thanks for that. I would love the spreadsheet too. Will PM you my email too if thats ok?? Your more than welcome to add yourself to the list on here......we are doing weigh ins on mondays.
Kicker i have added that link onto my quick tabs so i can just jump on and calculate my points for something, probably be faster than going through my book. that can be quite painful sometimes. Esp when ive had like a club sandwich.....its painful to list each ingredient.....ham, egg, bread, marg, etc......quite often i will hazard a guess cos you might not use a whole peice of ham or a whole egg etc.....

So Im officially starting tomorrow. Ive been already measuring and taking pics on a fortnightly basis so tomorrow i will be doing a new measurement and pic which will be good for my starting point on WW.........I highly recommend cos in 2 weeks i lost 3cm in my waist and in the pic i really noticed. And you dont have to show anyone your pics you just keep them for your own records etc.....oh and i always take pic in the same doorway and with the exact same clothes on.

Good luck anyone else starting tomorrow(today)..........lets try and make this week count so we can have a little indulge over easter

Nicole and Kandice you have been added to our list

I did it! 20.1kg off as of this morning! Stoked! Wearing a dress I haven't worn in ages to work this morning and it is really loose around my arms which is good as when I put on weight, a lot of it went on my arms.

All this new Points/Core thing sounds confusing! I'm still using the old Points books and calculator I had from doing WW before I had the gremlins - I think the ones I have are from 2005? Anyway, it worked for me then and it works for me now, so I figure no point in trying to learn a new system when I've got one that is working. I'm not counting myself as a nursing mother either coz even tho I am still breastfeeding lil miss, it's not like she actually needs any calories from it, and I figure any extra that breastfeeding burns off is just a bonus.

So those of you who started today, a show of hands.....?? I did and i had a friend come over and brought lunch.......luckily i managed to avoid the pies and muffins cos my baby woke up and needed feeding......i was already so full from the sandwich she made so i couldnt fit another peice in anyway. Just been working out my points today so far. naughty me skipped breakfast, so my points are not too high......only used 12 so far.
Having a steak and mushroom pie for dinner, so not sure exactly what the points would be on that cos its homemade.....will look through my book and hazard a guess and try and work out portion sizes etc......

I had that prob the other day, the only thing i had was meat patties (the frozen sort) and fish fingers and chips......sometimes i wish we didnt have to have dinner etc.......I would be happy with a ham and salad sandwich some days or just toast

Ive got a couple of weight watchers apple and cinnamon desserts i scored from the supermarket, 2x 2 packs for $3 and they only 2.5 points each.... might have one of those while watching desperate housewives

No worries! I just hope you can understand them and that they make sense to someone other than me. I my spreadsheets!

I officially weigh in tomorrow morning but here's the stats so far:

Lost so far 17.2 kg
Want to lose 19.6 kg

And I'll let you know tomorrow morning what I've lost this week!

So near and yet so far

Been battling these last few kg since Christmas! Hopefully a weekly weigh in here will help with the accountability.

Peachy - I'm worried about how I'll cope with easter too! I wonder how many points are in a cream egg ?

Raspberryjam - my fav is in the slow cooker, but I first brown mince in the wok and get rid of all the fat (I go a bit mental getting rid of the fat and use handee towels to soak it all up)... then I throw it in the slow cooker with couple of cans of red kidney beans (or those cheap chilli beans from paknsave as they're much less points than watties ones), 2 onions, can of tomato paste(if we have it, if not two can of tomatoes), a can of tomatoes, green capsicum, 2 of spoons of chilli powder, 2-3 garlic cloves, black pepper... then cook on low for 6-8 hours... However, if I'm in a rush I just cook it in the wok and it's still good... then serve rice and it's a good low points dinner...

I dont think i will have too much prob over easter.........these extra 7 points are wonderful!!! I dont think i will ever give up breastfeeding so i can keep eating my extra 7 points

We are quite broke so there wont be any extra cash to buy too many nice things over easter so will just be getting the boys a couple of small eggs and some hot cross buns and thats it really. Altho a potluck dinner on Sunday night might prove to be hard.......

Surprisingly Im not hungry today. And ive still got 7 points plus the 2 extra i got for walking.....Altho i had to guess the pie i had for dinner......i guessed about 7 points for a slice i had.......and couldve under guessed.

Maybe we can call this our practise week and dont be too hard on ourselves if we dont lose anything this week with easter........??

RaspJam I buy the expensive stuff when it's on spesh, but otherwise I get the cheap stuff - mind you by the time I've got all the fat out it's probably just as cheap to buy the expensive stuff LOL... the wok is great for getting the fat out... i balance it around the edges so the fat drips into the middle... then it sounds stupid but I soak up the extra fat from the mince with handee towels

Yeah Lou I could never use all my points when I was BFing... but I don't reckon I actually needed to cos 7 points seems a lot eh.... my girl was 5 months when I started though...

Congrats on the 20kg gone Maya, must be a good feeling!
Well weighed in this morning and I lost a grand total of 100g this week. I guess it's better than a gain, but was down 300g yesterday. Losing soooo slowly at the moment but I'm doing some different kinds of exercise so I guess my body is just adjusting. Just got to keep on keeping on!

Easter is going to be a challenge but at this stage my plan is a nice long run and a couple of marshmallow eggs

One brand of hot cross buns (maybe Quality Bakers?) is only 2 points per bun which is completely able to fit into a normal day for me (as long as I have no butter!) so will enjoy one or two on Good Friday. Num num

my day started good today, did a work out which was hard to get me motivated and then just had poached eggs on a muffin split.....no butter (yay me) hopefully the eggs will keep me fuller longer cos they are protein.

a loss is a loss Lurker it does slow down heaps when you get close to goal weight eh... how many points in a marshmellow egg? yummo!

Good on ya Lou - I gotta get motivated to get on my bike but it hasn't happened yet... eggs are the best eh, I often have them for lunch as it's so easy and low in points... I just had a chicken corn chowder out of a can and it was pretty good and only 2.5 points! so I'm up to 5 for the day....

lurker if i pm you could you send me your wonderful spreadsheet? Pretty please....

I started zumba yesterday (dh downloaded it for me). i only have the express 20min work out. It is sooooo much fun. I did tahitian dancing as a child so am loving moving my hips again and i worked up a bit of a sweat in 20mins which was good. Managed to do it twice yesterday and have done it once this morning. might do it again soon since the kids are in bed. It is so much fun!!!!

Im not officially starting until monday as want to sort out how to do the points on the food.

The marshmallow eggs vary depending on size but some are as low as 1.5 points. Most are 2-2.5 I think??

My favourite chocolatey indulgences are mini pinky bars, mini milk ways and mini turkish delights. All 1 point each.... but I've learnt the hard way that I can't usually stop at just one!!

And yes a loss is a loss, even if only a small one. I'm just pleased I didn't go up.

Nice work on the early exercise Chickielou. I wish I had the energy in the mornings but it's getting darker and darker and colder and colder and the enthusiasm isn't there.

Oh you ladies are so good starting already! I was going to wait until next week but maybe I will start sooner than that. I need to think about what I want to get so I can stock up when I do the groceries this week.

Chilli recipe sounds very yummy! Slow cookers are the best

freckle do you eat gluten free cereal? If so how do you work out the points value please?

I had 30gms for breakfast this morning and then thought I actually have no idea how many points it would be!

I have had a 95% good day today, pinched 2 chips from DD bag this arvo, naught naughty, but otherwise only fruit for snacks and a salmon salad for lunch!

Im a choc person, but i dont need a whole block at a time, im happy with a few pieces and i generally suck on them.........6 pieces of cadburys choc is 3.5 points or a whole 50g ( i think thats chunky size) is 6 points......

Im a scales addict, i am on them every morning. this morning I have now lost 3kgs!! which i am stoked about cos when i first started exercising i didnt lose anything for 4 weeks, 7 weeks in now and ive finally started shedding some kgs.
I also think after doing the points that i was actually not having enough eating enough a day and with Bfing my body went into survival mode.......sounds good anyway!! LOL

Hmmm having steak salad and chips tonight and even afer my eggs on muffin for breakfast and a club sandwich for lunch and Dinner planned i still am only up to 18 points......and i was good and weighed my steak so its the recommended weight of 140gms.
Bring on some choc me thinks!! LOL

Peachy I have been calculating points for everything using that link someone provided the other day... it's great!! http://wwcalculator.blogspot.com/2006/01/how-many-points-do-i-need.html - link

Wow Lou - that's great going! is that 3 kg since last week?

I'm up to 15 for the day after a yummy red thai curry... we use that light evaporated milk which is coconut flavoured instead of coconut cream and it's really low on points...
