We were lucky enough to be given a cot AND a bassinet... but we need to buy a new mattress for the cot. Should we also buy a new one for the bassinet? I read somewhere you should buy a new mattress for each new baby, but I'm not sure how true this is?
Also, there seems to be a huge range of price in mattresses - what's the difference between different types and which is best?

Bassinette matresses are really cheap so why not get one. I think one that fits ours was $30 or something like that
I think the main difference in cot matresses is foam vs innersprung. Foam matresses are gonna be cheaper as there isn't much to them. I think it comes down to preference really cause both work fine. Foam you just have to rotate/flip it more often. We personally went for a cheap innersprung which out of all the matresses available including foam was probably mid price range.

I agree. Its def best to get new mattresses in my opinion. We have 2nd hand basinette and cot too, got a innersprung mattress from Farmers sale (well my dad did) and my basinette mattress was $24.95 from baby factory. Its an oval material mattress and I just got a protective plastic cover that goes over it that is supposed to reduce cot death risks. I think that was $30 as well.....
