Hi Girls
Have been googling this subject a bit and wanted to get some stories from ladies on here.
Wanting to know if any of you ladies on here have been successful in trying to conceive while being over weight and how long it took to get your BFP.
Have recently started trying to lose weight again by watching what I eat and regular exercise plus taking xenical according to the BMI I am technically obese so just wondering how any other ladies have got on in this sort of situation.

hey CC, I am also losing weight as I know that is what is holding up my bfp.
After I had DS2 I starting walking heaps, I would take DS1 to kindy & walk around the park for a couple of hours & then walk back to kindy, I was losing weight just by walking & eating healthy, I fell pg when he was 10mths & I was not not trying to.
I was told by my m/w that if I lost 10% of my body weight it would up the chances of getting pg & having an easier time being pg.

That seems to be the common amount suggested 10%.
Im right back into being focused on losing weight I was just interested to see if anyone had conceived with a high BMI and how long it took.
The silly thing is I don't look my weight because of my height but the scales say otherwise

By my (pre preggy) BMI I am overweight (BMI is/was 26), however I have always been active and pretty fit and have played sport my whole life (up until 11 months ago when I hurt my knee). I have to admit that my weight didnt affect my fertility, with both pregnancies (and i feel guilty saying this) happening first pop...
When TTC I did decide that I wanted to eat healthyier and reduce/cut out caffeine, and I think that might have helped me. (also Im 23, so age is on my side...)
Sorry, just remembered my pre preggy weight, and my BMI was 29.7... so another 0.2 and I would have been "obese" (so funny cos Im defo no rake, but wouldnt have thought I looked obese..)

CC - I too am trying to lose weight at the mo as need to be 8 kgs lighter by the time I see the fertility specialist . When I had my other kids I conceived easily and I was smaller. People who are overweight can definitely get preggers but the risks are greater when you are overweight and pregnant (for lots of stuff including, high Blood pressure, Gestation Diabetes, miscarriage etc). So I think it's a great thing to focus on losing weight if ya need to as pg is tough enough on ya body. I have heard the 10% thing too...

Well I had all intentions of losing weight before I got a BFP and as it happens I got one anyway!!.
technically I am clinically obese (hate that word). I think it will obviously help to concieve if you are lighter but on the whole I think when your body is ready its ready. I'm under the OB at the hospital and when I'm in the waiting room it is amazing to see how many of the pregnant women are actually overweight ( I don't mean that in a derogatory way) its just a fact.
My OB actually said the overweight thing is more of factor during the pregnancy rather than the "get pregnant" factor. I do wish I was lighter to begin with but I wasn't and thankfully I haven't gained any weight (did gain 2kgs but now back to pre pregnancy weight) so far.
Goodluck with TTC cruzychic..............it will happen for you its just that I know its frustrating right now especially when you want those BFP's straight away
I'll be reading about that BFP soon I hope
ETA I was diagnosed with PCO so thought it would be ages to get preggers but I managed to lose 5kgs before I got preggers the first time and my friend who is an OB said sometimes thats enough just to get your hormones back in working order. After the m/c I stayed off the pill (was on mini pill) and I think that helped keep my hormones in check.

I had and still have a very high BMI (41 when TTC and 38.6 now) and I got my BFP first time. My cycle was very regular and I think this was a major factor. I also put on more weight while I was pregnant, however I didn't have any health problems during my pregnancy. I think I would have cope with my labour (40 hrs) better, if I had been lighter and fitter though. Best of luck
(p.s. My bmi at the full term was 48 and bubs & I were fine)

I was in the overweight range for BMI (and I was definitely overweight), so I lost 10 kg in the 6 months or so before TTC, and got pg in the second cycle after coming off the pill. I'd been on the pill for 10 years, so I think losing the weight definitely helped. 10kg was a wee bit more than 10% of my body weight, but not by a whole lot.
Sadly I'm now 6 kg over my pre-pregnancy weight, and BF doesn't seem to be shifting it at all. Once I'm getting a wee bit more sleep, I'll have to start exercising properly again because I definitely want to have lost it before I get pg again in a year or so.

i was around 104kg everytime i got pregnant.. had no problems... first one ended in missed mc...then had to wait three months to try again got preg right away with Ethan.. and then got preg when he was 10 months mced again and then got preg with Liam after a wee break as well.. so for us being overweight hasn't affected our ttc.

Hi all, I have a BMI of 39 and after the Fertility Dr harping on a me about my weight being a huge problem, even though we had male factor infertility, The first time we did IUI using a doner I got preg, had no problems through the whole pregnancy, so dont stop trying just because you may have a little more padding than others. Biggest advice would be to keep moving though, on days where I didnt i felt like I totally sezed up. Good luck everyone

I had BMI of 31 I think and we were trying for 18 months. We decided that we would focus on getting married so joined Jenny Craig and I lost 6 kg which put me into just overweight not obese hehe...and then concieved our little one.
Whether the weight loss helped I don't know but what I do know is that next time I want to weigh less because I am darn sure I would have found pregnacy easier if I had been slimmer and fitter....not that it was a hard pregnancy but I was pretty useless at exercising through it haha!
Lucky for me I put on hardly any weight and am back to pre preggy weight yay...

Yep I was overweight by over 30kgs when I fell preggers with DS...we weren't really trying, and had a lot of stressfull things happening the year prior to getting pregnant so it took around 14 months..and we were young (21 & 19)..but yea stress and medication played a huge part of our lives beforehand. At the end of my pregnancy I had borderline G.Diabetes and high blood pressure....but I didn't exercise and ate whatever I wanted to that definitely would have contributed. I definitely want to get down to my goal weight before trying for #2..and will definitely keep up my exercise and healthy eating during that pregnancy..think it would be pretty cool to compare the differences.

I've been overweight both times I got pregnant and it happened really really quickly (within a week of going off the pill first time, (I was 115kgs), and this time I was on the pill, hadn't had AF since giving birth and it happened out of the blue, I was 105kgs this time around). I didn't have any complications last pregnancy and hopefully won't have any this time around.
They do say that if you are in the process of losing weight it boosts your chances of getting pregnant, so even if its just a little bit, it's meant to help.

We'd been trying for quite some months and I went and saw a iridologist who said we both needed to cut out sugar. We stopped TTC for a couple of months, I went on a healthy eating and exercise plan at the gym and lost around 6kg. We weren't trying or not preventing the next month and bam I was pg! Unfortunetly I ended up mc which had nothing to do with being overweight! Unfortunately since my mc back in Nov '08 I've put that back on and a little more so Im now trying to get my A into G to lose some weight as I think with me personally it helped me get pg. I went to the doc earlier this month and it did look like I wasn't ov with irrgular cycles and also temping but this month I did ov (had bloods done last week) Yay! Im not going to give up TTC but Im going to really try focus on losing weight...

We'd been TTC for a year for our third child and had no luck. I then thought that I would lose some weight to see if that had any impact. I got pregnant when I'd lost 10kg's but MC but then got pregnant again on second cycle after the MC (with twins). Also, I was 41 so I also knew that that impacted on my chances of conceiving. So 12 months and no BFP's. Lost 10kg and get 2 positives within a matter of months of one another. Of course I'll never know if I hadn't lost the weight would I still have conceived. By losing the weight it did make me feel good so hmmm, who knows!

well cc i am with you with this one. i have a bmi of 28 so am clased as overweight.
i have started excercising again, running 20 mins 3 times a week and walking, swimming or biking the other days.
i think that being a 'little' overweight could be affecting getting pg and the other reason i want to get fitter and healthier is just for me. i need to do something for me that takes my mind off ttc.
best of luck with your journey.

my BMI is 33....168.2cm tall, 93kg..my gnaecologist was not happy about this and its one of the reasons he wont let me go back on the pill (other ones being i forget to take them, and my body takes the hormones and stores them and makes my hormone levels excessively high).
my goal is to get down to low 80's, but im struggling TBH as i cant afford to go to a gym and my asthma kicks in as soon as i run, or my hip/knee problem rears its ugly head and bam, sciatica and crippling pain for a week and no more exercise can be done

mucky one- have you tried swimming or aqua jogging? being in the water would really help with the joint pain and movement. you don't have to run either a good walk can be just as good.

I am about 40 kg overweight but have managed to get pregnant 2 times now. Although i have PCO and take Metformin it hasn't helped with weight loss like some say it does. I managed to get back down to pre-preg weight before getting preg again. Both times with the help of Clomid which induces ovulation.

mollymoo - yea ive tried it but its $3 for a single entry, $30 for 12 entries, $75 for 30 entries or $220 for 12 month no limit entries.. its still quite expensive, and id have to find a time that suits me 3-5x a week for best results.
or for $240 i can get 6 months of gym/swim...its something i would love to be able to afford but just cant out lay that all in one go.

Hi ladies
Im not overweight as such I think my BMI is 24 but I have always wondered if losing weight would help with fertility? I have room to be probably 8 kg lighter and it not be unhealthy or anything.
Is it just when your BMI is at overweight or could it help when you could healthily be lighter than you are?
Hope that makes sense

In terms of your BMI, you don't want to be below the healthy limit as that can have significant effects of fertility as well. If you are in the healthy range, I'd focus more on healthy lifestyle than on weight per se, if that makes sense.

Hi Ladies,
Just been reading all your posts. Great to hear some successes following losing the 10% goal. That's what I'm aiming for. Have lost 2kg so far, 7 to go! Not sure it will happen but will keep trying! I'm hoping that now my IUS is out and I'm hormone free, it may be a bit easier. Good luck to all

hey ladies
Im so glad I stumbled on this thread! I am in a similar situation... Im a lot overweight, BMI about 45 and worry that my weight is affecting our chances... we have been TTC for almost a year but Im almost afraid to go to my doc for tests cos I KNOW they will say you need to loose weight...its not like I haven't been trying for the last 10 years!!!
It is a big relief to hear of other ladies getting BFP's while being a less than ideal weight...
I am loosing weight (most weeks), you know eating healthy and walking but just want it to be over already!!

I put on 15kg my last pregnancy and most of that was put on in the first trimester because of MS And then in the last trimester a lot of my gain was also fluid retention. 7 weeks after birth I am now 13kg off my pre preg weight I read somewhere that 12 - 18kg is the normal range.
If you can keep active and avoid comfort eating (definitely harder for me during the pandemic) you can definitely lose the weight you accumulated during pregnancy.
The recommended 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise (or 75 minutes of more intense exercise) definitely helps. That's a couple of walks or online cardio / Zumba / HIIT classes a week.
Yoga helped me lose my weight a lot faster.
Yoga burns calories when done the right way.
If you are serious about losing weight and getting fit, you might want to implement a 60-minute power yoga and/or vinyasa flow practice at least five to six days per week.
https://yogaweightloss365.com/" rel="nofollow - This yoga weight loss program was easy to follow and worked for me during my pregnancy when I started gaining too much weight.
Each class is easy to follow, but is varied and enjoyable. Dynamic Sequencing means you'll always be challenged regardless of your current level.
If you want to follow my example, think about coupling your practice with a whole foods diet for optimal results.
Good luck honey!
Mandy
