This is my first experience with a baby who rolls etc as my first sat just before 5 months and then just sat...no rolling or crawling or anything until she walked.
Ashley used to roll from her front to back. Now the second she is put on the floor on her back she rolls onto her tummy. She lasts a while at first and then gets tired and upset. If I roll her back to her back she is back on her tummy within a couple of seconds and gets really mad about it. No matter how many times we roll her back onto her back she is back on her tummy in a flash and crying. I have been trying to stand back to let her work it out but if she gets too upset I need to help her out. Obviously her brain is working on preparing to crawl. Poor wee poppet simply can't be still. Whether on her back, front, sitting or standing she is in constant motion trying to roll, push up, pull up etc etc and she is getting mighty angry about the whole thing. Is there anything I can do to help her through this phase? I have to admit it is a little funny to watch but it looks so frustrating! ------------- Mummy to Gabrielle and Ashley |

| My DD did the same thing, constant movement. she eventually got strong enough to hold herself up.... now at 7.5 mo she is nearly walking... so it goes quick. I don't think I did anything special, just lots of talking I suppose. ie, its ok, youre alright. do you feel a bit stuck. you could try rolling onto your back, this is how we do it(as i roll her over). mmm, sounds a bit silly, but ti made me think i was doing something. lol |

Thanks for that. I have a silly song I sing about rolling as I help her through the movement of rolling from front to back. I sing it so often she may be haunted by it as an adult hehe.  My 3 year old even joins in and sings along now.------------- Mummy to Gabrielle and Ashley |

I used to babysit a child who was similar. We just did the same thing, talking and rolling her over slowly. It didn't last long before she could do more.
Also when you roll her, I'd suggest trying to imitate as much as possible the way she would roll herself, and letting her hold the tiniest amount of her own weight when she does it to build up strength. But I do mean TINIEST as you don't want to push what she's not ready for. If she is trying to hold herself up a bit and trying to turn a bit herself anyway though, then this wouldn't be necessary. Ditto to everyone above, my little one's doing the same and gets sooo annoyed with herself! I just try to keep things 'light' by singing and chatting sillily (is that even a word?!?!) to her, and distracting her with toys she can gaze down on to help her feel more comfortable on her tummy. She still gets annoyed but things do seem to be getting better slowly. It means I'm trapped with her when she has floor time though as she rolls the second I turn my back and is squawking for Mum/attention!!! -------------  |

Erynn has just started doing the same thing! I can't figure out why she wants to keep rolling to her front since she doesn't like it. ------------- Captain Chaos (5) & the Trouble Monsters (2!)
