Hi my daughter has just turned one year old.  She usually has 2 x 1.5 hr day sleeps.  Lately she has started to drop one of the sleeps, but only on some days.  She usually drops the afternoon sleep if she has slept in the morning.  Today she is sleeping this afternoon, but mucked around with her morning sleep.

What age did your baby make the transition to just one day sleep?

about 14 months we really made an effort to drop the morning sleep (it was sometime between 8 and 10 am) and do a really good lunch time sleep. This became a solid 2 - 3 hour sleep usually down by 12.30pm and up around 3pm.

We found that if Sophie was sleeping in the morning she didn't want to in the afternoon and then by 4pm she was a mess

Chelsea dropped a sleep in early Jan at 10.5months! Now she'll get up for the day (usually) about 8am, then go down for a nap around 1pm after she's had lunch, and sleep for 2-3hrs.

In saying that, the last two days she's woken up at 6:30am so have managed to get her to have a catchup sleep after breakfast for an hour, then 1.5hrs about 2pm. Then bed at 7pm

Just before his first birthday, but he was really ready by 11 months cos we were having big issues getting him to go to sleep. We just kept him up for longer in the morning (so he'd go down at about 11am) and then gradually stretched it out.

We have just dropped Ruby's second sleep in the last few weeks.

We are just trying to stretch the morning sleep until later so about 11am and she sleeps for 2 hours sometimes 3. Sometimes its a struggle to keep her awake around 4pm especially in the car but if she has an afternoon sleep she is up all night

Now she goes down around 7 or 8 at night and its so great

8-9 months, that seems really early :( One was 2 hours, at about 10, and one was 45mins, at about 3. Now she just sleeps anywhere between 2 - 3 1/2 hours from 11 on.

We talked about this today at coffee group, all five kids there (16-17mo) are all still taking 2 naps which will last from 1-2hrs each, so I guess it is just what works for your baby,
I really like Jaycees idea of doing one big one over lunch, so then we could go out in the mornings, but I might leave it for now cause I don't see myself getting out much in the future.

On Callum's first birthday he slept 9-11am and then refused to sleep for the rest of the day. The next day he wouldn't go down for his morning nap and only had one sleep ..... so that was pretty much it for us!

Up till then he'd been having 2x2hr naps very consistently for AGES.

We've managed to get into the habit of a lunch time sleep now (at almost 14m) but some days he will have a short nap at 11 and then need another longer one around 1pm. I guess the biggest change for us was that C suddenly functioned all right on a lot less sleep. If he only has a 1hr nap he can still get through the day without completely melting down now, which definitely makes life easier and more relaxed

Hmmm seems about Brooke's age (one year) is about the time when some sleep changes happen.  I so want Brooke to keep sleeping 2 x 1.5 hrs.

At least I will be able to plan things better for mornings and afternoons if she is sleeping over lunchtime.  (And get more time to eat!)

Thanks everyone for your interesting replies.

I remember Tom dropping his morning sleep when I was pregnant with James.   It hink he was about 15 months I was devastated but he soon started routinely doing a 3 hour stretch and that was actually better.

James is currently in the process of dropping it too and I am happy for that to happen if I can get that midday sleep to coincide with Tom. Some days it does and some days it is tag team sleep.

Bethany was always a shocking sleeper during the day (25-45mins at a time if at all) so at around 10/11mths I gave up trying to put her to bed twice (the screaming was unbearable) and cut her back to once. For a few months it involved anywhere up to 1hr of screaming and NO sleep, but from sometime after she turned 1 she suddenly started going to bed happy (any time between 11 & 1 depending on how tired she is & what else we have on each day) and sleeping an average of 1.5-2.5hrs at a time. It's bliss!!! :-)

Taylah is all over the place.

Over Xmas she dropped it down to one good afternoon sleep. So i joined the gym with hopes that we can be home by 11am for lunch and big nap. However that plan hasnt worked and she wants to still have 2 naps again now.

She will have one nap at 830/9am then one in the afternoon about 1230/1pm.
