Jackson has got a bad cold/cough and once yet again he has quit food. Honestly, every time we JUST start to make progress he catches something and he stops eating, and he loses all the weight again.

We're never getting off the 3rd percentile. I get so tired of seeing him all scrawny and skin and bones.

Do all babies STOP eating when they're not well? He's refusing basically everything, won't even drink his bottle. It's so distressing and I have had a big cry today.

I am so tired and stressed out to the max with work as well, feel like I didn't get to rest at all over the holidays. Am feeling very fragile and tired of battling. GAH!

Yep it is normal for them not to eat when unwell, the last time Spencer was ill he ended up with all his ribs sticking out, was pretty hideous. Luckily for us though he is a good eater so packed it back on quickly, I can only imagine how worrying and stressful it must be with a child who isn't that keen on food even when well.

I have my fingers crossed for you that he is feeling better soon and eating once again.

Would Jackson have a fruit smoothie or a milky milo? Hope he feels better soon.

Aww hugs. I know how hard it is, never ending rollercoaster of gaining then losing. Hope the cold doesnt hit him too hard and he gets his appetite back soon

Yep - totally normal. Ollie always reverted to either eating / drinking very little or just wanting pureed foods. We just tried to offer 'easy' stuff or things we knew he preferred and ride it out.

Hang in there - hopefully he will be on the mend really soon.

Andrew has just got over a virus that saw him quit all food (solids and breastmilk) for 3 days.  He has room to move weight-wise but by the time the fever broke he was getting dehydrated but drinking was like running a marathon for him because of his blocked nose.

My 3yo still goes off food when she's sick and when I think about it so do I.

Just try offering him yummy, nutrient rich food as often as possible - fresh or frozen berries are a favourite here, maybe you could make some iceblocks using blackcurrant juice.

I hope he recovers soon.

Completely normal - Elizabeth just stops all eating and drinking when she gets sick - I have to use a syringe to get water in 10ml at a time to prevent her getting dehydrated. She also does it when she's teething I hope Jackson gets over his bug soon.

Yep, when Jake was Jacksons age he was sick heaps (first winter in daycare) and he always went off his food, even though he is an absolute guts (weighs 16.5kgs now!). He lost 15% of his body weight with one tummy bug and we had to syring fluid in every 10mins for a few days cos he was so dehydrated. But cos he loves food it didn't take long to put it back on though.

Is there anything he loves that you could get into him? Jake would still drink milk when he had a cold and eat fruit and toast, but that was about it for a few days.

Thanks guys. Seen a glimmer of hope today, so hopefully we'll be on an upwards slope now.

Tired of this!

Appreciate your comments, and support, as usual. Sometimes I think I am going to go mad!

Normal! Little miss in our house is teething has refused veges and meat all week. Tonight I thought right I'm so over this so she got fish cakes, chicken nuggets and chips! (some ideas suggested by the nurse when bubs had jabs today) and guess what she ate it - couldn't get it in her mouth quick enough. Tomorrow night I will try the normal vege and sausages and hope she will have them. Maybe all us mums should go on holiday!!!

Yippity yip Same here, Callum went off food when he was crook back in NZ - bronchiolitis and yucky cold. He had been eating all sorts before we left Singapore and for the first 2 weeks in NZ ate fruit puree, pureed kumara or pumpkin and baby yoghurt He gagged on EVERYTHING else (porridge included) and it took a few weeks to come right back to normal after he was well again too.

Glad things seem to be looking brighter for you today Laurie. Hope the trend continues!
