What is considered a normal temp?? and whats too high?
Cadens temp was 36.2 a few hours ago and now its 37, I think 37 is fine? We have to keep an eye on him tonight as he is weezing again(he had Bronchiolitis in November) so Im checking his temp every few hours, and giving him his ventolin when he is weezing hard. Thanks! ------------- |

Hey 37 is considered ok however if it keeps rising past 38 he will need some pamol etc. Temps become dangerous at 38+ ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Cool thanks Yep the Dr gave us a script for pamol today so I have given him some, and he is due for more now, Im going to check his temp again in an hour or so to see if its come back down. ------------- |

Check his temp before you admin the pamol.
Pamol works by fighting against the bodies natural immune system, so if he has a fever he is fighting an illness of some sort By all means give it, but get an idea of the temp before it is given iykwim 36.5-37.9 is considered normal. Anything higher it is best to keep an eye on -------------

I called Healthline a couple of weeks ago when Ty had a really bad fever and I was struggling to keep his temp down, I told the nurse his temp was averaging 38.8 - 39.2 and she said you don't need to start really worrying until it's 40! WTF!! Don't always listen to Healthline!!! 
But yeah as far as I knew 36.5 - 37.7 was normal? It depends on where you take the temperature though (underarm/under tongue/rectal) - rectal is the most accurate you can get. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I took it under his arm, I cant see me getting anywhere near Cadens bum with it lol!!! He hates having anything like that done to him, when the dr checked his ears and throat he went nuts! 
(last night)I checked his temp and it was 37, so all good, but gave him pamol before bed, and when i went to bed his temp was 36.7
He is all good today. ------------- |

I dont worry too much of a temp under 38 (unless it is a baby under 6 months). I dont medicate for it either unless they my kids had a history of convulsions.
To me it is the bodies way of reacting to an infection it is trying to fight off. So if I give meds my kids usually get sick afterwards as I brought down that temp and it got a hold in their body. At about 39 I get worried but McKayla's basal temp is quite low. It is at about 35, 8 so 39 is quite high for her. And if that doesnt come down with meds and a tepid bath then I will take her in. For a baby up until 2 if that temp is 38 and it comes down with meds but goes up and continues a cycle for 3 days I take them to the Dr. And if it gets to 39 it is in immediately. At 40 for both kids I will take them to the emergency room immediately. With fevers I only had to take my daughter in once. I took Janaya to the hospital on Boxing Day as she had a fever of 39.5. We waited 5 hours to be seen, and when we were finally seen the doc wanted to know why I had brought her in and what my concern was. He said she just had a virus and to take her home to bed and she would be right in no time.
The nurse said once they get up to 40 then its time to get very worried He made me feel really stupid!

hugs E's normal one is 35ish too..
stupid docs who say that about 40...40 is hospital admission straight away but the 'official' word is fever is 38 or over.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

If Cadens was 40 id be heading straight to A n E, 40 is dangerous, Id be freaking out. Stupid Doctors!!

each kid is different through. Ella seems to run quite hot normally and when she gets a temperature it is perfectly normal for her to get to a temp of 40C and nurfeon always brings it down (pamol doesn't do anything for her). Well my kids have been 40 a few times and have never been admitted to hospital.
It's best to use your thermometer when they are well so you get a judge of their baseline temp as well. My kids are usually 35 degrees on our crappy thermometer, so anything much above that and I know they are feverish. Make sure you keep them cool, give them plenty to drink, sponge them with a cool cloth if they are getting up there, iceblocks, etc. to cool them and keep them comfortable. ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

I doubt they'd be happy with you taking a kid to a&e with a 40 degree temp (esp if you've given pamol and it hasn't come down).
Jack has had a few 40degree temps and his baseline is between 35.5-36. Our paeds always said to give pamol and a tepid bath in the first instance, and if the fever doesn't come down at all in 2 hours then ring the doctor. If they are floppy etc with the fever, THEN I'd be worried. |

Only reason I was worried about his temp going up was because we got sent to hospital in November with suspected pnumonia, he had a high temp and was breathing fast, he also had Bronchiolitis.
On Sunday he was weezing and breathing fast again and had a cough, luckily his temp nver went over 37 so I could stop stresing We saw the Dr that morning as well.------------- |

sorry thats just what the docs told us when we had to send one kid from school to the hospital and he said convulsions mostly happen at 40.0c and its very dangerous(they wouldnt let her out till it had dropped).. but as we know docs are wrong sometimes:) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

Chloe has had convulsions from fever and even then she wasn't admitted to hospital. Just cooled with cloths, iceblocks, pamol, ibuprofen, etc. High temp often makes them breathe fast as well. If you are worried definitely seek medical advice though. I do whenever the kiddies have a high fever, to get ears/throat etc. checked.
I would be more worried about the breathing problems, Sheza, just make sure you keep an eye on him. Bronchiolitis can get nasty, often it's just a pain in the bum, but it can get bad. Particularly if he is really struggling to breathe and his lips/skin starts getting blue/purple, get him to a Dr asap. He might need humidified oxygen, nebuliser, ventolin, other medicine - he might not either, but better to be safe. ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |
