Are amber teething beads safe to sleep in? I've just bought some zest baby ones for my 4mo and they say they are individually knotted, designed to break under pressure etc and small enough not to pose a choking hazard... but I'm still slightly uneasy about him sleeping in them at night. Any thoughts?

I'm in the opposite camp - I never take the necklace off DS. He's been wearing it since he was 4 months old. A lot of my friends are the same - their kids live in their necklaces - literally. So far, so good!

I'm in the middle - E wears her necklace all day - even during naps. I take it off at bedtime and put it on when I get her dressed in the morning. I think because I'm awake and around during the day I'm comfortable leaving it on then.

Dd wears hers all the time , have had no probs with it being on her all night And have found that nighttime is when her discomfort is worse when teething, so it helps heaps

DD1 wore hers 24/7 until the clasp broke one day when she was about 3yo, and DD2 (4.5mo) wears hers all the time - at night I make sure it is tucked securely under her clothes.

we dont take it off either. I figured it was night time when he was worst with his teething so what was the point of not wearing it then. I did hear that you can wrap it round their ankle at night and still get an effect....but my boy was too generously proportioned there.

DS is in his all the time - since we got them about three weeks ago. I figure that if it breaks, only one bead will come off and 1) DS hasn't mastered the pincer grasp yet so couldn't pick up a bead if it came off [or the whole necklace - especially not lying down] and 2) the bead is so small that it can't be choked on.

The only concern I have is if it snaps off in his hands and then he tries to put the whole necklace in his mouth but at the moment he doesn't even know he's wearing it so....

The amber contains a natural analgesic (succinic acid) which is released into the skin and bloodstream whilst worn. It has been used for centuries for pain relief etc

Sirius wears his all the time. I just take it off before his bath as water can cause the silk to rot.

Willow wears hers full time. Took it off the first night, (paranoid mum), around ankle second night but she keeped kicking it off. So now its worn full time except at bath time.

With Leah I took it off for baths or swimming but the clasp broke after about 6 months. They replaced it fine but with a longer one so I ended up giving it to a friend with a bigger baby.

Joels has been on since 3.5months, never come off at all. I was talking to a lady who sells them the other day and she said most people leave them on for baths now.

I made sure when I bought Joels one that it was the shortest length I could get and he never touches it or plays with it.
