Why does it hurt when Ty latches and feeds ? The whole time Im feeding him , my nipples feel like they are being bitten and chewed, except hes sucking normally , latches how he always has ,doesn't have any teeth , and I can't see any signs of thrush .
Any ideas what it might be caused by ? Im putting lanolin on , so hopefully that will help ...very odd !

Are you sure he's latching how he always has? Might need to be latching deeper? Maybe try different positioning to see if it makes a difference?
Otherwise, soor boobs when feeding can be a pregnancy symptom

I get a few random sore feeding days now and then - like two or three days where it hurts and I contemplate weaning... but it seems to come right farily quickly. No idea what causes it, just happens, and more often in the last two months.

I still am getting a few days every now and then when it hurts to feed, almost like a raw feeling on the nipple only. My DS is tongue tied though so I put it down to that and him being lazy when it does hurt. I find that nipple cream helps a little!

it might be thrush, just cause you cant see it doesnt mean its not there. i had no visible signs of thrush (that i could see) and it wasnt till gabriel got it in his mouth that much later i got treatment....

hmm, what are the signs of thrush without the evidence in the mouth ? are there other ways to tell?
Its sore, but its not as sore as when he had thrush , that was horrible !
I don't get random days each month usually , so this is very new , and I never got it with Caitlyn either ....

maybe the thrush is just on your nipple... cause the pain sounds just like it to me.

If its on my nipple, does that mean i'll pass it to him when he feeds? anything I can do to prevent this ? Hmmm, I wonder if I still have Nilstat whatever its called, that would work wouldn't it ?

i havent heard of that one. i know you have to be careful what you put on your nipples for thrush. but if you used it before then it should be fine. can you still ring your mw or plunket to check its ok to use?

Sorry I cant remember how old Ty is but at about 4mths we had to change our latch slightly as I was getting terrible pain and couldnt understand why. It was just a case of holding him slightly higher I think, so in a cradle hold putting my arm further underneath him and holding him more tightly toward me I think. I thought it was thrush too but def wasnt.
I went to my Dr last month after Hayden had thrush (15mths post his MMR jab) thinking that if he had it then I would probably get it too and the Dr said there is no medical evidence to say if either of you get thrush that it will be passed to the other. He is a very good Dr, pro breast feeding, anti biotics as last resort etc and had followed this up with Royal Berkshire Hospital Obstetrician and they agreed.
I have sore BFing days too when like Flutterby I think Right That's It We are DONE but then it comes right again, I think its to do with my menstral cycle / ovulation rather than actual AF.

I get sore bf days too, mine too seems to be related to ovulation rather than AF.

I used to get it also because he was not latched on properly & due to that got cracked nipples, so I used shields till they healed & then got the hang of latching. I also had to learn not to stress over the pain & latch him fast for feeds as when he was hungry he would fuss & chomp.
If it is thrush then it will be passed on to baby & he will get little spots in his mouth you can buy cream for him over the counter, but I would go to the dr & get you checked out.
Air your nipples out if poss they will get tougher with BF.

How old is Ty?
Tender breasts could be from anything from thrush to a change of position or like someone else commented on, pregnancy.

Interesting to hear people saying their cycle affects breastfeeding. In the past month or so I've had red raw nipples and one split so badly that I had to feed her solely off the other side for 3 days to let it seal as every time she latched it split again. I put it down to her teething, and her acrobatic nursing positions - she often pretty much hangs on with her latch while the rest of her tries to climb away - but coincidentally, I just had my first AF since she was born last week, so I wonder if hormones had some effect as well. Probably a combination of factors.

hey , thanks for all the responses, who knew that pain in feeding could be put down to so many different things huh ?
Well, pleased to say that feeding is a lot better , its still a bit tingly , but it doesnt hurt like it was, I don't know what I've done differently, must have been one of those random days in my cycle , feeding is great again now
