I wasnt sure where to start a search on this but I thought I had read some of you use charting as a form of contraception.

How does it work what do you do? I am interested in knowing more about something like this (once my cycles get back to normal obviously)

I dont want to take the pill at all and the thought of an IUD scares the bejeezes out of me

At the moment we just use condoms. Before kids I was pretty up with my cycle and we planned to do a bit of "doing it at safe times" etc before we TCC but we didnt and fell pg straight away so I am not sure quite how to go about it.

any help would be much appreciated.

hehe, all I know is that C's dad and stepmum use that method , and shes always been pretty up with her cycle.
Now they have 3 boys instead of 2

As long as you are aware of your cycle and don't get caught up in the heat of the moment this can work brilliantly.

We had a very skeptical family (myself included) but my sister and her husband did this for several years (despite being one of those couples that can get pregnant very easily when they want to).

She used The Billings Method.

I don't know about using it as a contraceptive, so far I've been charting for 3 months to conceive and had no success so guess it must work.

ha ha....I can see that when you want it to do one thing its likely to do another

I kinda want to know how it works. Is it the same as charting to conceive....if so, I'll read the thread in the TTC section.

Off to google.

hmmmmm just googled the billings method. It sounds logical....pretty much what I was kinda doing anyway...only difference being DH HAS to wear a condom EVERY TIME and I jut wont let him anywhere near me at "fertile" times. he he he.....considering I have fallen pregnant EVERY time we have tried for a baby....I am either very in tune with my cycle or very fertile...bloody scary.

I might look more into this and give it a try next year. we are undecided as to a 3rd....so if an oopsie happend it wouldnt be the end of the world and might just make the decision for us....and if it doesnt happen, then thats well and good too....we will leave it a little longer.

But I would be keen to hear from anyone who has "successfully" used it.

It is basically the same except you don't 'do it' within the five days or so of ovulation. There is a great book and software out there called ' Taking charge of your fertility'.

With charting you basically take your temp at the same waking time every morning and record that, as well as recording cervical mucus (sorry tmi) and pms signs. Your temp rises during ovulation then drops.

I am doing charting now to TTA and am going to start trying to take my temp at the end of this AF. The only thing with taking your temp is that you have to have at least 3 hrs solid sleep before taking it, then you have to take it as soon as you wake up before doing ANYTHING else. So may be kinda hard with a baby to get up to.

I was doing NFP before Lydia - temping every day and using condoms during fertile times. Lydia was the result of a one-off early ovulation! I'd NEVER had a cycle longer than 32 days, Lydia was conceived on a 28 day cycle.

I've been temping ever since Lydia was born, and according to my temps have not ovulated once in 6 cycles, despite having all other symptoms. My temps are ALL over the place, and it is no longer a reliable method of contraception for us.
