DS is now 4mths old. I know the recommendations say to keep him in our room till 6 months, but it's getting harder.
I want my room back, and he can be so noisy at night. Not crying, just cooing and gooing and snuffling.
He's only small how can he make so much noise?
After a particularly rowdy night I think, that's it, time for his own room!
Then I think about he SIDS recommendations and feel really guilty and he gets to say in our room another night.
Are other baby's all in parents room till 6mths? Am I just being super selfish, two more months isn't that long right?

Cody has been in his own room since day one. Though he did sleep with us often in the first month or so. The only reason that he has been is because our bedroom was too small for his bassinett/cot and the walls are thin so I can still hear any noises he makes.

No I don't think so. Well done for having him there for 4 months. Do what works for you. I have had my DD in her own room, next door, with her door shut since she was 1 week old. She is now the same age as your little man. And she makes a lot of noise - snoring and all!
I have had a bit of tut tutting from various people, but I ignore them. It works great for some familys, but not ours. I tired having her in with us, but it didn't work. I'm a light sleeper, so I hear her through the wall, and go to her when she needs me, but dont wake up to every sound. If she was sick, I'd sleep in her room, but touch wood this hasn't happened.
I was worried about SIDs too, but my Mum said if it happens its so quick, it wouldn't matter where she was. I always make sure she has blankets away from her face and that she's not too hot.
She actually likes having her own space and will happily coo and gaga in her cot when going to sleep and waking up. I figured it was better for her to have a mother who had a good night sleep.

OMG I so know how you feel wanting your own room back. DS was in our room until he was not quite 4 months old. I felt like a new woman when we moved him into his own room. I had my nightstand back, I could walk around in my room and the best part, I could go in there whenever I felt like it because there was no sleeping baby in there.
Do it! You won't know yourself.
(On the more serious note: that's not to say that I didn't consider the SIDS risks but for the most part we were doing everything else right - No smoking in our home, we don't smoke, bedding was all natural fibres, we didn't overheat DS, slept him on his back, no bedding near his face etc. etc.)

I've had my son in his own room since he was about 3 weeks old (apart from last month when he slept in bed with us...that's another story lol).
If you are really worried about it I would recommend a movement monitor for peace of mind, it was when we got ours that I moved him into his own room. They are expensive but you can normally pick them up on trade me heaps cheaper than in the shops.

Isla was in her own room at 3 months and I so wished I had moved her sooner- I got better, longer sleep with her not next to me, cos I would sit up waiting for her to fall asleep after each feed, and then wake at every little noise.
We will be having this baby next to me in bassinette again, but who knows how long for, will depend on the baby and how much sleep Im getting etc.

As everyone else said...when ever you want or as long as you can stand it.
We on the other hand are renovating so still have Cooper in with us <sigh> thank god he's a quiet sleeper, when he's asleep

we put DH in a cot in his own room from about 4 weeks. we dont have a monitor or anything as it never bothered us. if you think you'll be back and forward making sure bubs is ok all night it might be a good idea to get a monitor. its totally not selfish at all. i dont know how you can cope. lol. do you have many other SIDS risk factors ie smoking inside or anything? the less other factors you have the safer it will be to move him into his own room without any problems :)

The girls have been in their own room (right next to ours) since we got home from the hospital. We can hear their noises that say they need us (dummy fallen out etc) but not all the snuffling and snoring and farting, so we all get decent sleep. We don't have monitors either.

No, I guess no other high SIDS risks. Just a paranoid first time mum.
No smoking, BF, full term, good birth weight

We just moved our little girl (nearly five months) to her own room three nights ago.... mostly due to me wanting to keep her close.
Apart from currently going through a phase of not wanting to be separated from me to go to sleep (previously having had no problems sleeping) once asleep she has slept longer and more soundly. Normally she slept from 8pm-5am (when dad got up for work) now she is sleeping until 7am due to not being disturbed and having more room in the cot (probably more comfortable too). Definitely loving having my room back I didnt realise how much I missed it....
i thought the transition would have been a lot harder so pleasantly surprised - go for it if you are all ready I am glad my partner waited for me to make the decision and put no pressure on moving her. He is now missing playing with her in the morning because she doesn't wake up before he goes to work!
