We live in the UK and DH might be going out to Sydney to work for 3mths and DS and I might join him for that jaunt - fun and sun in Sydney sounds WAY better than a UK winter, its only a maybe at this stage but if it does happen it will all be very short notice so I'm thinking of a few of the big things now so I dont panic totally if we get 24hrs to get on a plane.
DS will be 16mths at the end of November and has been walking since 11mths, should I take the McLaren buggy for airports/life in Sydney for 3 mths or get an Ergo which I was thinking about getting for future babies anyhow or just a backpack set of reins??
I'm worried a stroller will be a nightmare as there is the chance I might have to fly out the week after DH by myself and the idea of juggling a toddler, a stroller and handluggage gives me palpatations!!!
But then on the other hand if DS is knackered at the airport and doesnt want to walk then my arms will drop off if i have to carry 13kgs of him all over the show!

I personally would get the Ergo.
You would probably need to check the pram in anyway (although some let you take it to the gate), so you will end up having to carry him if he wont walk.
Reins are pretty compact, so you may want to get some of those for the times when he does want to walk.
We travel with two kids and a pram is a pita and neither child usually wants to be in it anyway!

I travelled to Ireland and back with ds on my own at 14 -15 months old. The best thing I found was the ergo as it folds up really small you don't need help putting it on and it is still comfortable to carry a toddler with. I would send your stroller in the hold cause they are never at the gates like they say they will be and sometimes if they are you have to walk abit to find them anyway. There is alot of walking in the airports between planes so with reins you will proberly end up having to carry him or drag him along at a snalls pace. I have done the trip 3 times now at the different ages and have learnt the hard way to limit the hand lugage to one bag if you are going the ergo route get one on wheels

Yeah hand luggage on wheels is great! Reins are cheap so I'd have them and the Ergo too. No pram simply coz they are to big and bulky
Hope you end up getting to go to Sydney!!

Yep if you're on your own I'd go the Ergo and reins combo too, unless you got one of those super compact Safety 1st foldup strollers that fits in the overhead compartment.
We did from here to Canada and back when DD1 was 2yo and the Ergo was great! Especially when up on a mountain and the stroller wasn't quite so versatile LOL

What Julia said and if you don't have one already, get a Trunki too! Such a life saver in the airports when you're waiting around. Fun going up and down the aisle on the plane too
Maybe you could even come home for a weekend...?

If we do get to go there will DEFINATELY be a trip home, DH might only be able to do a weekend but I'll come for a couple of weeks probably so there will a round up of July 08 OB Mums n Bubs for sure!!!
Apparently Qantas fly direct 21hrs to Sydney so no airport loitering which does sound good.
Its actually looking less likely to come together at the moment unfortunately but I've got my fingers x'd!!!

I'd get the Ergo (big fan here!) But if you have a Maclaren I wouldn't stress too much about taking it as well. You should be allowed to take it right up to the gate and they will have it waiting for you when you disembark as well. On Air NZ they will let you bring an umbrella stroller on the plane if it will fit in the overhead compartment (though I wouldn't bother myself as it's just one more thing to put up there!).
I found wearing C when I was travelling by myself was awesome as it left my hands free to grab stuff. However in saying that - when I arrived in Chch airport there was a lady waiting for me who carried all my hand luggage, which left me free to deal with C, and then escorted me through immigration (you get to queue jump with a baby) and even helped get my luggage off the belt AND took me out to meet my uncle and made sure we were all right getting everything to the car!! Kudos to Chch Airport (and/or Singapore Airlines, I've never found out who actually organised it).
For 3 months in Sydney you're probably going to want a stroller, so I'd definitely take your Maclaren, it'll be light enough
