Hi ladies :)
Jody is 1 today ( )
She usually has 3 meals a day, plus morning and arvo snack and 5-6BFs a day.
This week she has been eating and drinking like a horse.
Yesterday she suddenly stopped BFing for longer than a minute(except for first and last feed), although she did ask for a feed to start. Then today she had her morning BF, skipped mid morning BF and after lunch BF. I offered it to her mid arvo and she had a tiny bit and then wanted to go and play again. She ended up only really having 2 or 3 feeds which is very unusual for her.
Is this what self-lead weaning is all about?
Just curious really, I thought she would just slowly drop a feed here and there.
My boobs are going to be so sore tomorrow!!
Oh, also, if she is dropping right back on BFs should I be offering her some cow's milk??
TIA

We just had our 9 month check up and apparently he should only be on 3 BF a day, so I would say she is fine and has just decided to drop a couple of the day ones. No need to replace with anything. At 12 months I'm pretty sure Spencer was on 3 bottles a day and not long after that he dropped to just morning and night, he wasn't having any other dairy (he's allergic) and his paed was happy with his milk intake.

I hope that helps a bit.

Amby, you're a machine! Hollie went from demand bfing to 3ff a day, over the space of about a week, about 7/8weeks ago. So I'd say she just doesn't need/want the extra feeds anymore, but is still getting plenty of yummy goodness.

Does this make sense? Idk. sleepy.

Thanks ladies :) I just didn't realise it could happen so suddenly.
So I will only offer milk when she drops to 2 or less feeds.
Ok, I'm off to find a low top to show off these milky babies before they deflate

Love love love your last comment.

My boy did similiar. I feed him morning and night now but about a month ago he started lossing interest in his other feeds in the day so I just stopped offering. Some days he would ask and I'd give and other he wouldn't. A month later he's hardly ever asking but if he does I just say would you like some water or boobie and usually he runs to find his cup.

As for milk you can offer but she probably does'nt need it. as long as she is have two good feeds a day. Often they get some milk with breakfast of in their lunch anyways.

Yeah you don't need to offer cows milk in replacement at all and she probably wouldn't want it anyway as she doesn't want breastmilk. They only need 5-600ml of dairy (or breastmilk) and that includes any milk on cereal, yoghurt or cheese.

1 year olds come with attitude

james is only on about 3-4 feeds a day....they just dropped naturally. I'd be pretty stoked if weaning was that easy, if thats what IS happening....but could just be that she doesnt want much today.
