Probably a dumb question but want to know what you all do when dropping your older one off at DC or picking them up?

I did my first drop off today and took DS2 in in his capsule but am not really comfortable with this because of bugs etc when he is still so little.

Help please

If the newborn in asleep, i know a few mums at our DC leave them in the car, their older children settle quickly though & we are the country

I usually take JAmes in with me but its a PIA as I am carrying him. Lately he has been falling asleep so I wind down a window and lock the door with him inside. Tom settles quickly and we are in the middle of nowhere too

Sometimes I take them in the buggy and leave him in the office areas

What about placing a muslin wrap over the capsule and popping up on a table, away from little hands?

As long as the kids don't touch him/cough/sneeze on him he'd be fine, I'd think? Plus with the muslin over him that offers a bit of a barrier.

The thought of kiddies being left in the car scares me But then I'm a "city" girl

i only left eden in the car if i could park right out the front of the kindy.... if its germe you are worried aboutthen a muslin is a good idea.

Peanut, I've always taken Ava in, I just popped her up (she was in the capsule) on the teacher's bench away from sticky little hands.

But hey she started DC at 5 weeks so was bound to catch germs anyway!

I'd just put a cover over him, I don't feel comfortable leaving Ava in the car as she'd scream murder.

I dont think I'd leave kids in car in the city either...but hey I leave my handbag in the car here too. I only leave James in car if he is asleep and I can get the park right by the door...or he is really tired and NEEDs the sleep. I can still see my car from inside. I wouldnt do it anywhere where he was out of sight. I will leave Tom in for a bit longer...eg at the vets...took AGES to get the cats meds etc. Tom happily played in car....again he was within sight.

Get a pouch sling or mei tai Those are the two I'd say are the easiest to use with a NB if you are on your own.

We started doing kindy drop off / pick ups for DD1 when DD2 was just six days old and if she was in the capsule I'd just sit further away from the mat (where they all gather at end of session). Other than that I use a sling as it is heaps easier and not as heavy!

It depends if im walking or driving, I usually walk, so I just carry him or pop him in the ergo, he is out of the reach of tiny grimy hands that way.

If I drive, I carry the capsule in and pop him up on the table, I wouldnt consider leaving him in the car so I usually walk if its pouring down with rain as I can get both kids inside the centre dry as they are under the raincover in the pram

I wouldn't probably leave in the car just incase. Does your DC have a drive? And are you allowed to quickly park in there and do a drop off?

With twins it was just to hard to take them both in when the kids were in Creche so they would stay in the car. Same applies now that one goes to Kindy. I leave the twins in the car and run DS in but I do make sure that I have a very close park.

Chances are though if there are bugs about your older child will bring them home anyway.

i always took DS with me when i took my niece to kindy from within days of him being born. the bug thing doesnt worry me too much. if you have a capsule you could chuck the storm cover over it? DS was in care from weeks of being born so i could go back to uni and he has never even had a runny nose so as long as the kids arent clawing at bubs i wouldnt worry bout the germs too much

i would be the same as you re the germ thing.. esp under 6 weeks.. I'd just cover bubs too..at E's Dc there is one park where you can see the car but i'll prob take him in I would say..what a pain but I'm too paranoid not to:)
